Donald Trump delivered on his promise to flip the Democrats electoral hold on the industrial Midwest. Across swing states and others previously thought to be safe for Democrats Trump colored dozens of counties red that hadnt gone Republican in decades.
Of the nearly 700 counties that twice sent Obama to the White House, a stunning one-third flipped to support Trump.
Trump also won 194 of the 207 counties that voted for Obama either in 2008 or 2012. By contrast, of those 2,200 counties that never supported Obama, Clinton was only able to win six. Thats just 0.3 percent crossover to the Democratic side.
Clinton had more opportunities to peel counties from the Republicans. Historically, Democrats rely on few (but very populous) counties to chart a path to victory. Republicans, by contrast, draw support from a wide swath of many more rural and suburban counties.
Despite having a smaller field of possible counties to win over, Trump did just that, delivering electoral votes in the Upper Midwest states, as well as in Florida and North Carolina.

There is something really wrong with many of our citizens; either they don't care for their fellow citizens or they don't care about our country....or maybe they are just plain stupid!!!
Four years of Obama trashing the Constitution, race baiting, anti-growth policies and MONETIZING and weaponizing US federal agencies wasn’t enough...he got a second term.
Hillary was supposed to serve as Obama’s third term...carrying out even more of his destructive policies.
Thank God.......He saved us from that atrocity.
Obama really hit his stride, didn't even pretend to fake it any longer, once he got to his second term. He wouldn't have dared to open the borders like he did during the first term.
That said, what he was, and where he wanted to go, was plain enough that it's hard to understand why or how he was elected for a second term. That is, until you recall how Romney just laid down in the last couple months of the campaign.
My county,Luzerne,of my birth delivered PA. To Trump!
God bless you and yours.
Something tells me that none of the 5 0bama states which flipped to Trump, would have done so if it was Jeb, or Rubio or Cruz running against Clinton. ONLY Trump had the right message to get these people to vote for him in large enough numbers to flip the state from blue to red.
“Of the nearly 700 counties that twice sent Obama to the White House, a stunning one-third flipped to support Trump.”
Trump was right; they had nothing to lose by voting for him and everything to gain!
Best. Election. Ever. EVER! :)
*TRUMP BUMP*
Mine Too!Even with all the current Section 8 citizens in the Valley esp in Wilkes-Barre and Kingston area he still pulled it off.God Bless the Deplorables!
That’s the lesson the GOP will have trouble learning.
Nobody Else Could Have Beaten Her And The MSM. Nobody.
The REAL upheaval that the GOP is going to hate is money. Trump got outspent 5:1. The world of consultants and campaign managers and enormous fees to internal pollsters and money for ground game and money for TV ad producers . . . all those guys are going to have to find a new career.
Fundraising just became a lower priority for political office. That whole industry just got stabbed in the gut.
They won’t be happy, but it’s done.

The craziest part of this stat is that 3 of the six counties that Clinton flipped nationwide surround Atlanta. Cobb, Gwinnett, and Henry counties. I would attribute the result to either “illegal dreamers” or the self-righteous “Ned Flanders” voters that couldn’t get past the use of the word p**sy.
Cobb and Gwinnett went Republican by comfortable margins in 2008 and 2012. Henry was a closer race both times. I don’t know what the reason is. Yankees moving in? Atlanta metro area has grown at least 30% since 2000, but I don’t know how much Cobb or Gwinnett has grown since 2012.
Pinellas County in Tampa Bay, where we live, came through for Trump after voting Obama twice.
Thanks for posting this.
Gwinnett demographics have changed subsantially in recent years. It’s heavily Hispanic and Asian now. In Cobb, I suspect it was women who went for Clinton, although I haven’t seen any exit polls that substantiate this. Gwinnett didn’t surprise me, but Cobb did.
