SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Donald Trumps election as president is giving a big social-media boost to an unlikely effort in the nations most populous state: a plan to vote on seceding from the union.
The Yes California Independence Campaign hopes to put a question on the November 2018 ballot that would authorize a statewide independence vote for the spring of 2019.
The effort drew little attention until Tuesdays election, which also kept Trumps fellow Republicans in charge of Congress and raised the possibility of a conservative shift on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Any effort to get an issue on the ballot requires the gathering of hundreds of thousands of signatures.

Millions have died so that our nation could remain safe. They gave their lives for Republicans and Democrats. We have seen a shift in our nation, but we are still a nation.
If millions died to keep the sacred trust, shouldnt we be willing to try to take back our lost territory?
Ten people ot of 36 million or so Californians go to the state capital to get some attention, and some FReepers cant wait to chime in saying, if those ten want to go, the other 36 million should have to accept it.
The nations busiest sea ports are in California. San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco is where they are located. In times of war we need those ports.
What folks have just signed on to, is a deal where anyone who gains control of California, could agree to have a Chinese or Russian military presence there. Hey, those ports would come in handy.
California has the sixth largest economy in the world. Hey, why not gift that to Mexico or a single entity Astlan?
FRee Republic resides in California. So do 35% of the voters who picked Trump over Clinton. Hey, no problem, they deserve to be abandoned by loyal citizens.
Folks we have our work cut out for us. We need to tackle the problems of unions, universities, and guys like George Soros.
If we let California go, well be playing right into their hands. Theyll focus on other states and soon well have lost the entire West coast and stats inland from there.
I know folks think they are being loyalist when they champion the cause of getting rid of bad states. In fact what they are championing is something no enemy has been able to do, take mainland United States soil without a fight.
I live in California. The largest financial support group for Free Republic every quarter for years, does as well.
California is a problem. If folks want to develop focus groups on how to change that, Im all for it. We shouldnt get rid of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, New Mexico or Colorado. We shouldnt get rid of New York or other states.
Folks, we need to come up with strategies that serve us well, not George Soros well.
Let them show us where in the California state constitution it says they can do that, because I’m fairly certain I’d understood there’s specific language in there which says they absolutely cannot.
Some language inserted there specifically to prevent the new state of California switching back to the old pre-1849 era Californios’ republic or to the Vice-Admiralty of New Spain.

After they secede, we can invade them and deport them from our newly annexed territory.
Oh, and one more thing, if you do secede Trump will build a wall between the United States and California. Ten feet higher than the one between America and Mexico.
Let them go. In two years we can charge them $100,000 dollars per roll of toilet paper.

I’m willing to sacrifice the San Francisco peninsula as the city/county/state/country to the liberals. We can all gather any watch then ban earthquakes in their enlightened society.

Can a state legally secede from the Union? Many, including Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, suggest no. In a 2006 letter, Justice Scalia argued that a the question was not in the realm of legal possibility because 1) the United States would not be party to a lawsuit on the issue 2) the constitutional basis of secession had been resolved by the Civil War, and 3) there is no right to secede, as the Pledge of Allegiance clearly illustrates through the line one nation, indivisible.
The Fourteenth Amendment to the constitution states:
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
So it legally can’t be done.

If Conservative mouths weren’t bigger than their patriotism, they would collectively pack up and move to California.
It wouldn’t take ten years before California would be voting as a Conservative state again.
Millions of Californians abandoned the state, and allowed the Leftist to take over. What did we expect, running away instead of fighting? Where to we run next? When do we stop running?
Time to take a stand is right now. Here in California.
