As the reality of President-elect Donald Trump settled in very early Wednesday morning, MSNBCs Chris Hayes summed up an explanation common to many on the left: The Republican nominee pulled ahead thanks to old-fashioned American racism.
But the attempt to make Trumps victory about racism appears to be at odds with what actually happened on Election Day. Consider the following facts.
Twenty-nine percent of Latinos voted for Trump, per exit polls. Remarkably, despite the near-ubiquitous narrative that Trump would have deep problems with this demographic given his comments and position on immigration, this was a higher percentage of those who voted for GOP nominee Mitt Romney in 2012. Meanwhile, African Americans did not turn out to vote against Trump. In fact, Trump received a higher percentage of African American votes than Romney did.

Does this mean that those who did not get their brains filled with Progressive pablum for four years are the problem?
I think I see the problem.
Somehow earning a Bachelors Degree did not render me completely stupid.
Incredible, I know.
Newspapers continue to lose money, because journalists like this guy are out of touch. He`s living in Stupidville and get out.
University-educated people receive social brainwashing. Planned, coordinated, faculty-run brainwashing. For decades.
You make some excellent points. I actually know many people who have advanced degrees and voted for Trump - not necessarily because they liked him, but because they thought there’d be a chance for conservative policies under him while there would be NO chance under Hillary.
I voted for him but didn’t like him; however, the thing that really made the difference in turnout is that Trump’s most successful business was entertainment and building his brand name, and actually this was not a bad thing for this election. Hillary got the press and Trump got it only by being the bad boy. I wish his handlers had taken away his phone and spared him some of the midnight tweets because they were the only thing that gave Hillary’s campaign any oxygen.
But Trump attracted the attention of a lot of people who had tuned out politicians years ago. And some of them, actually, are college educated and even have advanced degrees and are not barely literate, as most of the articles seem to imply.
The press doesn’t want to know this. Still, there was a great article by a journalist on the CBS website saying basically that the press blew it because they were all out of the same hive and buzzing the same buzzes and that they should actually get back to objective reporting. We need to encourage this.
As for those (like me) who didn’t like Trump personally and didn’t think he was sincere in his conservative positions, they voted for him. And that’s all you want.
Non college educated blacks went for Clinton.
What does that mean? Huh liberals?
I have a masters. I knew exactly what I was doing when I voted for President-Elect Trump!
They actually pay people to write this drivel.
Correct. And because college educated American were on the verge of having to urinate out of doors, since leftists believe the role of the nation’s chief executive is to clear the way for pedophiles, perverts and the mentally ill to invade restrooms.
I stopped going to coffee houses years ago, the methane was overpowering.
“Nothing to do with college....the demographic was the WORKING middle class and Id say 35 and up. In other words....the ones who are paying the bills for the leeches.”
Pray tell, of what will ‘work’ consist in the next few decades? Manual labor is virtually going to disappear as a way to earn a living. Long gone are the days of a dozen young wannabe architects in the back rooms with paper, pens, various measurement items. All their knowledge is now contained in a small silent box connected to a printer of a size few folks have ever seen...
‘Art history of the American Indian Tribes’ degree holders are still making your coffee for you.
Repeat last sentence with 99 more ‘invaluable degrees’ of same value in earning a living.
Physical labor value approaching ZILCH !
Brainpower replaced by computer.
Pray tell, how will our grandchildren earn a living as good as we have had?
When the millions who pay exorbitant prices to see a ball game of some sort are replaced by machines/robots/computers
who will those superstars get to pay them their millions for bouncing/hitting/carrying a ball of some kind and getting it to a ‘goal’?
The ‘goal’ will be having food for the next day let alone retirement,a new car....or $100.00 tickets to a game...
Ya really think (Insert filthy rich Silicon Valley names here) are gonna redistribute all their money to useless ‘eaters.”?
I believe Trump won because more and more Americans are figuring out this leftist agenda has been a failed agenda for this country. And the truth is, it has, especially with all the massive debt that it has brought us. The failed 0bama presidency was responsible for half of that.
It’s the left in this country, which includes much of the media, that doesn’t want to face reality that their agenda is a failed one. I believe, the more the left doesn’t want to face reality, the more unstable they will become.

The Hillary voters in question are NOT college “educated”; they are college “indoctrinated”. Outside of engineering and hard sciences, there is very little education going on in our so-called “institutions of higher learning”.
Let’s all keep in mind that the vast majority of Hillary supporters have never gone to college and a large percentage did not graduate high school.
Exactly, more than 50% of working age people paid no federal income tax last year. This includes the welfare crowd, most of which didn’t graduate HS—these segments vote 90% plus for demorats. Once again, the old media is spreading lies.
The guy cooked the numbers. 33% have bachelors or more. Many of those are young cause everyone goes to college these days.
Fantastic article
Not all of us - some of us work in manufacturing and product development and things that actually require this thing called “work”.
In 2008 when O-Vomit was elected I had a $105,000 a year job with awesome benefits, bonuses, tons of travel and a bright future. I am now unemployed. My last job was a $50,000 a year job with terrible benefits. In the spring of 2009 my company laid me off for lack of work. O-Vomit told us to go back to school and that would solve all our problems. I went back to school and earned a bachelors degree, Summa Cum Laude. I was able to get a 13 dollar an hour job. I am now completing a master’s degree. I’m completely unemployed and losing my house. I did everything O-Vomit told us to do and it didn’t work,
So why don’t you tell me, Washington Post how my story fits in with your narrative? Tell me why I did whatctheur hero told me to do and it hasn’t worked? This administration represents everything that has gone horribly wrong in my life. Until you can tell me why Obama-whatever FAILED ME, go f**k yourselves in a rolling donut. What you morons missed was people like me, left behind, forgotten about. We’re pissed and you ignored us.
THIS is what democracy looks like, assholes. This is the results from plans that fail. Expect a lot more white guys like me with advanced degrees showing up and putting the lie to your stories.
Oh, by the way, I’ve been in media for 31 years. Don’t tell me you don’t know my line of work because you’re IN my line of work.
Change has arrived and the train is coming. Get on board or get run over.
