Each day, millions of calls are placed to phone numbers that have been disconnected or are no longer in service. Everyone misdialsmen and women, rich and poor, blacks and whites.
Scott Richards wants to replace the familiar Your call cannot be completed as dialed message with a different one: Would you like to take a survey?
His is among a spate of ideas bubbling up for new ways to sample public opinion. The alternatives are coming because the traditional methodrandomly calling phone numbers again and again until someone answershas grown far more labor intensive and costly in recent years.

Energy:
17. Simulated disorder postulates perfect discipline, simulated fear postulates courage; simulated weakness postulates strength.
18. Hiding order beneath the cloak of disorder is simply a question of subdivision; concealing courage under a show of timidity presupposes a fund of latent energy; masking strength with weakness is to be effected by tactical dispositions.
One possible question: “.45ACP or 9mm”?
Sick and tired of the polls.
We have NoMoreRobo Calls blocking calls on our landlines. We see the number on our phones, tv or computer, and if we don’t know the caller. We don’t answer.
Our Android phones have a call blocker app that seems to work in the back ground.
Sometimes cloned calls which appear to be local calls sneak through. I then use the Comcast call forwarding system to forward any calls from those numbers to the local DA’s office # to report criminal phone scams. They never call back after that phone visit.
IT is called a combination of Caller ID, and Spammers. Most people don’t answer anymore for numbers they don’t know.
Caller ID can be manipulated by the caller
In phone systems the caller ID and phone number is set by the tech or administrator of the system
Just because it says ABC123 INC from 555-555-5555 does not mean it is from them.....
You are the second freeper, who has had a phone call from a possible poll taker and got back to me!
When I get an automated survey, I respond that I’m a young, female Democrat who is going to vote for Trump.
Once I managed to indicate on the poll that I was a black female lesbian.

It has been really good for the Cowboys.
It is a test of Jerry Jones. If he is a fool he will put him back on as QB despite the 5-1 start by Dak.
And the idiots here in Dallas will STILL go to the games!
The worst are the robo-callers, you can't even tell them to go away, and they keep calling back.
I have spoken to a few live polling people, but interestingly they want me to answer questions but they won't answer any about who paid for the poll, or who they really are.
Why would anybody answer any questions for somebody who refuses to give their name, their organization's name, or their address?
Yes he did.

I got a call Monday from Gallup

Truth
Oh, now, suddenly no one is answering their calls. Such BS
We get them all the time. My husband has answered and explained that he has no opinions, he gave them up when he got married!
lol, I’m just the opposite. I relish some poor smuck calling me out of the blue so that I can rake em over the coals. It’s a lot of fun. Try it, you’ll like it.

Geez, you are just a youngster!:)
Years, ago I took an early retirement program and didn’t work for a year on advice from our CPA.
It was amazing the calls from pollsters I got from 1 pm to about 4 pm, M-F. Later, I learned that was how they got the unemployed/on welfare liberals, waking up for the day.
To shorten the process, I would tell them, that I was a conservative republican, Christian, Veteran and I voted republican. Usually they would hang up, and some would thank me and then hang up.
Gallup and Pew got the message and stopped calling.
I was polled earlier tonight on the house landline by Quinnepac. So yes it does happen. (Im in PA.)
Pretty basic stuff, no questions about policy or how well anybody is doing, just who are you going to vote for, whats your party, do you follow politics, do you vote, will you vote, and a couple of demographic questions.
They also asked if I had a cell phone, and how often did I use it. That might be a little groundwork for the next election.
No polling calls that I know of.
But a lot—2 or 3 each day-— of calls that begin “Congratulations! You have been selected...” and I hang up. Now I wonder if these are pollsters.
After getting up to 6 poll calls a day, I started screening. Hanging up when they do catch me.
Every once in awhile I’ll go ahead and play their silly little game.
