Teddy Roosevelt wanted to prevent Muslim immigration to America:

He managed to achieve a ban on Muslim immigration, without violating religious freedom principles. He simply outlawed immigration of people from cultures that practice polygamy, using the precedent that was used to deny Mormon Utah statehood when Mormons practiced polygamy.
Jimmy Carter took actions after the Iran hostage crisis against Islam immigration.

Reason has little to do with anything now, because the people are politically corrected lumps.
This is OUR country...and NO ONE has the "right" to come here as a resident.
Yeah. Teddy was a racist and religious bigot! A man from a past generation. We’re way more enlightened now!
” Could the reasoning that Teddy Roosevelt used in 1904, be applicable in 2016? “
It probably won’t convince the enormous number of immigrants who are replacing the American people.
Was it ever challenged in court? Because you know that if they try it now then it will be.
Bully!
We should admit no one who believes their law should replace ours.
Well that makes it easy. How about banning everyone who is in favour of marrying children, oppressing and raping women, killing homosexuals, honour killing, and on and on and on.....polygamy is the least of their problems.
My understanding is that during Obama's administration, the immigration oath of citizenship no longer requires swearing allegiance to the United States
whereas previously, that was one of the conditions of swearing in new immigrant citizens.
Is that correct ?
Oh, we have a far better reason - terrorism. Simply ban anyone coming from 25 or so North African, Mid-East or South Asian countries. It would be the most effective and cost-efficient anti-terror program we could have.
Searching a site specializing in newspaper archives for NYS, I came across this gem in:
Titled: SELLING MUNITIONS (Theodore Roosevelt in Metropolitan Magazine.)
It has been the settled policy of Germany to drive all other countries out of the business of manufacturing arms and supplies, because, of course, if this were once substantially accomplished, the rest of the world would be completely helpless before Germany; and Germany has made it evident that she knows no such things as international morality and looks upon all other nations, including the United States, merely as possible prey......The Americans who are now striving to prevent the sale of munitions of war to the countries endeavoring to secure the redress of Belgium's wrongs, that is the allied powers, are playing the game of a ruthlessly militaristic and anti-American Germany against their own country as well as against the interests of humanity at large.
It was Germany which for decades supplied Turkey with the means of keeping the Christians of the European and Asiatic provinces in a state of dreadful subjection.
“Enlightened” is such a confusing term. A balloon filled with helium is “enlightened” all right - so enlightened it will drift up into the higher reaches of the atmosphere until it bursts and falls back to earth, an unrecognized and usually unidentifiable wisp of itself.
Teddy had his own issues with the “Barbary pirates” of his day. The Moroccan pirate, Mulay Ahmad al-Raysuni, captured a former resident of the US, Ion Perdicaris, who by then (1904) was an expatriate living in Tangiers.
Roosevelt and his Secretary of State, John Hay, talking tough at the Republican Convention. Hay declared to thunderous applause that “the government wants Perdicaris alive, or Raisuli dead!”
Pretty effective rallying cry.
“Could the reasoning that Teddy Roosevelt used in 1904, be applicable in 2016?”
I expect that polygamy will be legalized within the next decade unless a Constitutional Amendment is passed that defines marriage.
I also don’t think the liberals would go along with banning Muslims from the USA even if the Muslims were to be openly waging war on them within the USA. They’d call you a “RACIST!” for wanting to stop a Muslim from slitting their throat.
