President Teddy Roosevelt Was Opposed to Muslim Immigration

Posted on 10/18/2016 7:35:08 AM PDT by pinochet

Teddy Roosevelt wanted to prevent Muslim immigration to America:

He managed to achieve a ban on Muslim immigration, without violating religious freedom principles. He simply outlawed immigration of people from cultures that practice polygamy, using the precedent that was used to deny Mormon Utah statehood when Mormons practiced polygamy.

Could the reasoning that Teddy Roosevelt used in 1904, be applicable in 2016?

Reason has little to do with anything now, because the people are politically corrected lumps.

Countries that profess Islam. Since it is a political system, and ALL allegiance is to their "state", they should be denied entrance.

This is OUR country...and NO ONE has the "right" to come here as a resident.

Yeah. Teddy was a racist and religious bigot! A man from a past generation. We’re way more enlightened now!

” Could the reasoning that Teddy Roosevelt used in 1904, be applicable in 2016? “

It probably won’t convince the enormous number of immigrants who are replacing the American people.

Was it ever challenged in court? Because you know that if they try it now then it will be.

We should admit no one who believes their law should replace ours.

Well that makes it easy. How about banning everyone who is in favour of marrying children, oppressing and raping women, killing homosexuals, honour killing, and on and on and on.....polygamy is the least of their problems.

Sacajaweau:" This is OUR country...

My understanding is that during Obama's administration, the immigration oath of citizenship no longer requires swearing allegiance to the United States
whereas previously, that was one of the conditions of swearing in new immigrant citizens.
Is that correct ?

Oh, we have a far better reason - terrorism. Simply ban anyone coming from 25 or so North African, Mid-East or South Asian countries. It would be the most effective and cost-efficient anti-terror program we could have.

Reading the Sultan Knish piece led to further exploration of Teddy Roosevelt's writings which might have been published widely via quotes from "Metropolitan Magazine".

Searching a site specializing in newspaper archives for NYS, I came across this gem in:

Outlaw immigration from cultures that preach or practice violent Jihad.
Problem Solved.

Or was that too easy?

BTW. . .the reason I searched "Metropolitan Magazine" with "Theodore Roosevelt" at the NYS newspaper archive site is because Teddy's book Fear God, Take Your Part mentions this source.

“Enlightened” is such a confusing term. A balloon filled with helium is “enlightened” all right - so enlightened it will drift up into the higher reaches of the atmosphere until it bursts and falls back to earth, an unrecognized and usually unidentifiable wisp of itself.

Teddy had his own issues with the “Barbary pirates” of his day. The Moroccan pirate, Mulay Ahmad al-Raysuni, captured a former resident of the US, Ion Perdicaris, who by then (1904) was an expatriate living in Tangiers.

Roosevelt and his Secretary of State, John Hay, talking tough at the Republican Convention. Hay declared to thunderous applause that “the government wants Perdicaris alive, or Raisuli dead!”

Pretty effective rallying cry.

I expect that polygamy will be legalized within the next decade unless a Constitutional Amendment is passed that defines marriage.

I also don’t think the liberals would go along with banning Muslims from the USA even if the Muslims were to be openly waging war on them within the USA. They’d call you a “RACIST!” for wanting to stop a Muslim from slitting their throat.
