I can definitely hear the G & S influence.

It was the Kansas song but no big deal, I just hadn’t heard that the Eagles had done that song.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
PARIS
HARPERS BIZARRE: TWO LITTLE BABES IN THE WOODS By 1967 there was a thread in American culture that compared the current era to the Roaring Twenties due to outlandish clothing, wild behavior, sexual freedom and drugs. Parallel 23 by the Association from their Insight Out album laid it out perfectly.
Harpers Bizarre was a band recording for Warner Brothers that took songs from the era and worked them up in soft pop arrangements. They specialized in Cole Porter tunes, and this gives you an idea of how a song can be adapted to new approaches.
It starts with Cole Porter singing the introduction from his own 1934 recording, and then the band comes in with a typical mid-Sixties middle-of-the-road treatment.

I guess they didn’t. I took someone’s word for it on YouTube and downloaded as Eagles. I’ll fix it. If I do now the link is messed up. Most people don’t pay attention anyhow. :)

Eyew...don’t like that arrangement at all.
But then, the 60’s had their bursts of genius, surrounded by lots of banality.
Like every era of music, I guess.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
PARIS
IRENE BORDONI: DONT LOOK AT ME THAT WAYThis is the star of Paris singing her song from the musical with the backing of Irving Aaronson & His Commanders. Its from 1928, and her French accent was very real. Note her operatic approach to singing, normal for an era when Broadway shows didnt use hidden microphones for amplification. Once the song gets going, its pure Twenties dance band. You could imagine this on the soundtrack of Boardwalk Empire.

Howdy, LUV!
It was good enough evening. A friend showed up we hadn’t seen in a little while and that added a bit of fun to it.
Now catching up on the day’s news. Looks like a lot has been going on.
Was it a busy day at work to help the time go by quickly?

Good evening, Pro....I’ve been looking up news for my Mom. She wanted to know what happened in Oregon. Found where a rare tornado hit in the northwest. And they said weather from a typhoon is coming into Washington and Oregon.
The other thing she wants me to find is where “they are cutting down the trees and bushes”. Cutting down trees across our street is very prominent in her hallucinations. There are no helicopters bringing in rappelling crews and cutting down trees. But that is what she is repeatedly “seeing”.
Needless to say...can’t find anything about trees and bushes.

Well howdy, PRO!
Was afraid I’d missed you, getting in a bit late. You feeling any better today? Sure hope so!
It was a good enough day. Cool temps and cloudy but we were skipped by the little rain that hit TN. Bummer.
Don’t want rain tomorrow (and have no worries about it) since there’s a cruise-in close by. Breakin’ Baby outta da garage for a little while.
