"An estimated 25,000 to 30,000 black bears live in California, though the animals are more commonly seen in Central and Northern California.
The larger and more bellicose grizzly bear was wiped out in the state more than 90 years ago, *although in recent years there has been a modest campaign to reintroduce the animal here."

Here's the kicker that is sure to thrill CA hikers and campers:
"The larger and more bellicose grizzly bear was wiped out in the state more than 90 years ago, *although in recent years there has been a modest campaign to reintroduce the animal here."
Yet more proof Environmental-wackos want to kill you. Introducing Grizzlies in a state that all but forbids legal firearm carry and usage on public property..
I hate those trans-dimensional bears ping.
Another attack by teleporting bears.
They’re ruthless.
I did some research on this a few weeks ago. Apparently black bear attacks are VERY rare (11 deaths in the continental US is 120 years) but are usually caused by a male stalking prey, often for hours. So yeah, they WILL come out of nowhere.
But they are nowhere near as dangerous as Grizzlies or Polar bears. And the people that actually study these animals have no problem hanging around them and even petting them, though you can get nipped or slapped.
No, the bear was relaxing in his living room someone decided to hike through his house. Castle law. You're allowed to beat down anyone who comes into your abode without your permission.
He came out of The Woods!...........
Man-Bear-Lunch...................
Timothy Treadwell may disagree about “getting nipped or slapped.”
No that’s not what it shows
Some folks aren’t smart enough or aware enough of their surroundings to be in the mountains
Is this an undocumented alien?
Is he/she a California citizen?
Did he/she mean to hurt his ‘victim’?
Does he/she belong to BLM? (Bear Lives Matter)
If not California citizen was he/she properly vetted?
Who did the Bear vote for? (Assume absentee ballot if hibernating season in effect)
Did the hiker have a little bell and spray with pepper spray?
Precisely
A real shame. The bear was an aspiring rapper who was just starting to turn his life around.
BEARS, Senor? We don't need no stinkin' bears!!!
LOL! #BBLM
RE: “In June, a 120-pound black bear was euthanized after it injured a man who was camping above Altadena in the Angeles National Forest.

Downtown San Francisco, Berkeley, Pelosi’s vineyard, and Hollywood are all GREAT spots to release wild bellicose grizzlies!
Guess his friend out ran him...
A lot of bears associate humans with food because hikers and campers are careless about trash and cleanup, and the bears, who are intelligent, become habituated.
If you have both a lot of humans and a lot of bears in the same space, you are going to have trouble. People need to accept that if they insist on visiting the wilderness, it’s going to be, well, wild.
“I did some research on this a few weeks ago. Apparently black bear attacks are VERY rare (11 deaths in the continental US is 120 years)”
I suggest you refresh your memory cells.

The one thing you have to worry about with black bears is the rare male, especially in August, that wants to eat you. They will stalk you. The good news is that if you actually catch them stalking you, you can scare them away in all sorts of ways. They just are not that aggressive.
Not that I would want to be in a position of trying to scare a black bear away that was stalking me, but they’re kinda like sharks in that you can punch a shark in the nose and it will back off. Black bears can be scared away by simple bluster, but rocks, sticks, and pepper spray can seal the deal.
Tell that to experienced hunters and woodsmen with Excellent situational awareness skills who’ve been maimed and killed by Grizzly bears.
Geez, their very namesake describes the horrific nature of the injuries they inflict...
You go into Grizzly territory, unarmed, first - please.
IMHO, Eff mis-understood lethal Grizzlies, Pit bulls, Alligators, Sharks and urban gang members!
