Tim Kaine's Catholic Mutiny
American Thinker ^ | October 7, 2016 | Daniel John Sobieski

Liberal Catholic candidates for public office such as Democratic nominee for vice president Tim Kaine often proclaim their Catholic identity to curry favor with this constituency, but when it comes to practicing the doctrines of their faith often are what are called “cafeteria Catholics”. They pick and chooses from what they might call the “Ten Suggestions”, particularly when it comes to a woman’s “right to choose”.

Unfortunately for Tim Kaine and fellow cafeteria devotees, there is no right to choose on what are called “doctrines of the church”, even if he seems to think so. On the issue of same-sex marriage, Kaine said in a recent speech to the 20th National Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C. that he thought the Catholic Church would soon follow his lead on this issue:

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine, a practicing Catholic, on Saturday described his evolution on same-sex marriage and predicted that his church would change its views as well.

“My full, complete, unconditional support for marriage equality is at odds with the current doctrine of the church that I still attend,” Kaine said at a dinner celebrating gay rights. “But I think that’s going to change, too.”

Representatives of the Catholic Church responded by saying, er, we don’t think so, suggesting this “practicing Catholic” needs a little more practice:

We have excommunication, which is a medicinal remedy to recall people to their senses. It is not applied often enough, which is a shame. But there is no such thing as being “kicked out”.

But there is no such thing as being “kicked out”.

Kicked timed out is what happens to Prot FReepers if they ruffle the feathers of certain thin skinned Catholic FReepers too much.

"Fraud?"

That one's a given since he's claiming to be Catholic. Robbery, well, he's a professional politician, which means he's in public sector organized crime as opposed to the private sector crime you may have had in mind but nevertheless, robbery seems like a given as well.

His bio says Christian. Not that I think that Catholics are not Christians like some claim. I am Catholic too, and I definitely consider myself a Christian

Wapo/ABC News poll shows Trump leading with Catholics 57/33 which is a record breaking margin even larger than Reagan’s 1984 22 points over Mondale.

“...all the while these high-profile Catholic politicians are enabling and encouraging and funding abortion, gay marriage, transgenderism, etc. “

And that’s the answer to your question: they are Catholic politicians. They are selling out their moral code for political power. You can’t judge the Church by them, any more than you could judge Jesus by his tax collector friends or Judas.

The Church teaches the truth; the “faithful” must make the choice to follow the teaching. Some don’t. I’m sure Judas called himself an Apostle to anyone who would listen while the whole time he was plotting to betray his Lord.

Anyone can say they’re Catholic. Not many can live Catholic. It’s a gorgeous religion... and a tough one.

I get that there are corrupt Catholics, just as there are corrupt Protestants, Jews, etc. It just seems that the Church only comes down hard on Joe Blow for his divorce, use of contraception, etc while letting politicions skate.

There appears to be a certain amount of truth in what you say.

Many of us are none too happy about it.
