Lots of ways to communicate. I remember the BBS days, and the days of "Q-Mail" and other well developed network-over-periodic-dialup social communication mechanisms.
The vast wasteland of trivial stuff on Facebook and MSM might be able to wall itself in, big deal.

as long as 2 wires are strung between buildings there will be internet - of sorts - it may mean procom plus and modems but thats where it started anyway - bulletin boards and such

2020 will see the death of POTS availability. What's supposed to happen in 2020 that will destroy POTS? I have a couple old rotary landline phones I would like to use for a while yet - they'll probably outlast me, and they're already 40+ years old.

Exactly. The genie is out of the bag.
Now that there is one Internet, why not 734 of them, seamlessly passing information among them, and without the ability of the censors to monitor?
Go dark, everyone!

I really hope Free Republic can be mirrored on another site. That way, if there is censorship imposed about various topics, they could still be discussed elsewhere.

I’m going to exercise my 1st Amendment Rights no matter what. And I mean all the way to Civil War II.

The FCC is ending the mandate of universal POTS in 2020. It’ll begin the great turndown of the PSTN.

I havent tried it yet, but there is the new Brave browser from the guy that got fired from Mozilla because he was normal. Try at your own risk: https://brave.com/ Won't run on XP. Requires Windows 7. I don't like Windows 7 or newer.

I understand your position on XP. Clearly the best of the MS operating systems. Seven is *almost* as good.
