This just coming over the wire. A New Jersey Transit train crashed into a wall after entering the station in Hoboken around 8:30 a.m. It is unclear from earliest reports whether the train jumped the track, but according to live televised coverage by New York City Fox affiliate WNYW the roof over the passenger waiting area collapsed, resulting in serious injuries. The exact number and nature of those injuries have yet to be reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the train failed to slow down as it entered the station. One on-scene observer who witnessed the crash was WFAN anchor John Minko. he told reporters with CBS New York:

It simply did not stop. It went right through the barriers and into the reception area.

CBS further reports that images from the scene reveal “mangled metal, wires and debris scattered all over the floor.” A video posted by another individual who was present reveals the extent of the structural damage.

could be just an accident. Seems fishy that it’s a just a few weeks after that Muslim tried to bomb there.

Have we leaned the cause of the derailment in Philly last year, piloted by conductor Brandon?

I take the Metro North line which terminates at Grand Central. The last couple of miles (under Park Ave in the upper West Side) is always the slowest part of the trip, because once you get to Grand Central, the tracks come to an abrupt end. That's why they call it Grand Central Terminal as opposed to Grand Central Station. It is where all the trains come to the end of the line.

I'm sure that it would be the same over in NJ. as that is also a terminus. It's where the trains reach the end of the line.

“But I’m personally betting it was caused by a conductor who just made it to the next level of Candy Crush on his/her iPhone.”

If the system is designed such that one person, the conductor, can kill many people because of an error, it's not an acceptable system. People pass out, die, etc.. It happens. If they can design cars that automatically brake when the driver screws up, why can they make trains automatically slow down when approaching a station or the end of the track?

If it’s a terror attack you can bet next debate they will get right to it and talk about Trump’s tax returns and a lawsuit his father faced in 1972.

This reminds me, that at the time of the Philadelphia train accident, that Chris Mathews said Republicans treat trains the way they treat Hispanics. He was trying to make some point how Republicans resist spending on train maintenance , I think???

So yes I do expect this will be blamed somehow on Republicans.

Yep, or find some miss universe contestant he allegedly insulted.

Anyone else think it was so stupid, that Hillary’s campaign decided to push what Trump allegedly said 20 years ago, as somehow indicative of his mistreatment of women????

And then it turns out this girl has had some major troubles in her life..,......

Is the driver Islamic? Is this Islamic terrorism? Until shown otherwise, I’d give this a high probability.

Has the driver been seen? Dead or alive? On the scene or MIA? Seems that’s the first person they’d want to find.

I have come into the city multiple times on the Hudson Line. The speed that the train approaches Hoboken is pretty much the same.

JUst saw on the other thread that a witness says still alive. But where? Being de-briefed? Free to come and go?

William Blaine, another train engineer who witnessed the crash, told NBC New York that he was with authorities when they found the engineer slumped over in his chair. He says he believes the engineer died, but there has been no official confirmation from authorities

Postive Train Control, or automatic braking, is not yet deployed by NJ Transit. They speak of a 2018 rollout but they have made near zero progress to date.

The sad fact is that NJ Transit trains in 2016 are operated like trains in 1916. Your life depends on one person doing the right thing, every day.
