Tulsa County DA: Charges of manslaughter in 1st degree will be filed against Officer Betty Shelby.
How did the cops know he wasn’t reaching for an automatic weapon? I agree however they should have shot to disable him.
The police have no idea what limitations they may be facing in the person they’re dealing with. The guy could have been deaf, or disoriented for some unknown reason beyond his control. This wasn’t a case where a cop pursuing a suspect alone had to deal with someone in a darkened hallway, or a perp wrestling for her gun.
I think this sums it up perfectly.
She shot a passive man who was no threat and already tasered.
Betty said he was reaching into his car. He was tasered upon suspected “movement”. He starts to buckle and she kills him for reacting to the taser.
Funny thing— he couldn’t reach into his car. The windows were rolled up.
I think she should have said accidental discharge, but... that’s still manslaughter.
‘Shoot to disable’?
You must be kidding. Please tell us you’re kidding.
You put your finger on the crux of it. If you ignore a cop's orders, and/or resist arrest, you increase your chance of first, getting beaten up, and second, getting shot. Statistics prove that police shoot whites every bit as readily as blacks if they don't cooperate and are perceived as a threat.
I'm tired of people LYING. Tired of it.
“As a side note, why did she go for a kill shot?”
There is no such thing as a “kill shot.” There are only shots. They land somewhere between where you aim and where you hit. Unlimited factors can effect shot placement including adrenaline, breathing, angle, hand placement, level of experience, etc.... However, if you have decided to use Deadly Force then you are attempting to kill. Period. If you incapacitate the Subject and he still breathes, then that is just a bonus.
Apologies, the “why not just wound the Subject” argument is a pet peeve of mine.
And warning shots or “shooting in the air” is illegal or, at a minimum, against policy in most, if not all, departments - local, state, and federal.
There’s such a term as ‘passive aggressive’. When you’re not complying you’re a threat. When you begin reaching and acting erratically you’re a thread. I think she made a hard choice. Me - I just have to decide whether to spend $2,000 on remarketing or paid social advertising.
Agreed.
Your interpretation is mine as well.
I agree however they should have shot to disable him.....The Lone Ranger totally agrees with you.
It seems we had a rash of that a few years ago. Bad shots of dogs and men.
“...or you use traditional compliance techniques that were in effect for the past 10,000 years - before the other two existed.”
And on our next episode of...Jurassic Cop... :)
Oh yeah and he was WHACKED ON PCP.
Why aren’t you tired of the unqualified choking up?
If it wasn’t based on evidence she’ll be vindicated (and the malcontents will have to concede the nanny-state tried to give them “justice”).
“I watched the ground level video of this incident AND AS USUAL, I SAW A BLACK MALE TRYING TO GET INTO HIS VEHICLE RATHER THAN FREEZE AND OBEY COMMANDS. The media narrative was that his ‘hands were in the air’.. BULLSH*T. He was trying to open his window or enter the vehicle AFTER being told to stop and that is why he was shot.”
That’s how I saw it too.
Id bet this is a PC bs charge for appeasement.
So she’s been overcharged.
means she’ll probably walk.
