Police and other emergency services in New Jersey are responding to reports of an active shooter on Elizabeth Avenue in Linden in Union County, according to initial reports. There are reports of injuries.
The incident happened at around 10:45 a.m. ET on Monday when police were called for reports that someone was shooting at cars passing by in the 500 block of East Elizabeth Avenue, which is near the Linden train station.
Officers rushed to the scene and it is believed a suspect is in custody, according to initial reports. There are reports of injuries, including as many as two police officers, but there was no immediate on their conditions.
It was not immediately known whether the shootings are linked to the recent bomb attacks in New York and New Jersey, or whether it is linked to the manhunt for Ahmad Khan Rahami, who is being sought as a suspect in those attacks. The scene of the shooting is just southwest of Elizabeth.
My feeling is the powers that be are very upset the the Linden cops took this guy alive. Dead men tell no tales.
Sleeper cell?
Piscataway, Edison, and Woodbridge NJ are like walking around the UN headquarters.
They've since clarified that to he was reported by someone to be sleeping in a doorway to a local business. When cops aroused him he got up and started shooting randomly at passing cars, as well as shooting and hitting a police officer.
ha! :)
But the NYPD bomb squad and CSU said the metal of the dumpster was blown in, not out. The device and its container was left alongside the dumpster, facing the sidewalk. Probably in the hope that the dumpster’s mass would focus more energy rease toward the people on the sidewalk.
Or simply to partially hide it so people wouldn't report it as a suspicious object.
Definitely a diversion.
I worked in a hospital in Elizabeth, NJ back in the 80’s. The city was already a dump, sort of a smaller version of Newark.
But Islamic terrorists? I count myself lucky that “ back in the day” all I had to contend with was a bunch of Puerto Rican heroin users.
Did he mention all the OTHER bombs planted? It wasn’t just one bomb.
I wonder if people who sympathize with the enemy, like Shep, realize on any level how illogical and twisted their thinking is...
I agree about Camden.
Years ago I was at a FR gathering there -— forgot what it was. My DH said to keep away from a certain main street while there. Well, when I left, I was looking for signs to the Garden State Parkway and realized I was on the forbidden street. This was when we still used maps. I didn’t dare stop to look at the map and FINALLY saw a GSP arrow. WHEW!
Camden was bad then and is worse now.
NJ has so many great places, yet dotted with terrible areas, but I guess that is true in any state.
FReeper xkaydet65 corrected that in post 86.
“But the NYPD bomb squad and CSU said the metal of the dumpster was blown in, not out. The device and its container was left alongside the dumpster, facing the sidewalk.”
Yikes!
Do you believe this ‘clarification”?
‘ he was reported by someone to be sleeping in a doorway to a local business. When cops aroused him he got up and started shooting randomly at passing cars, as well as shooting and hitting a police officer.’
So when he was on the run, on Monday morning he goes to sleep in the doorway(??)of a local business and when rousted by the cops, starts shooting at cars?
He is a diversion, for something.
TWB
Last I heard, Hoboken had become cool with Millennials who can’t afford Manhattan or Brooklyn (or the other boroughs).
“”New Jersey is a kinda unique state.””
You got a problem with that??
Maybe. Seems very odd.
No doubt in my mind he was the designated fall guy for a larger cell. The only way to end a massive FBI manhunt is for them (FBI) to think they've closed the case.
Latest is he was discovered sleeping in a doorway, and when roused by police, got up and starting shooting. He then managed to escape and run (on foot) before they caught up to him and another shootout took place. I’ve also heard something about him fleeing in his car.
