Thanks very much for that one, Maestro - they don't make them like that anymore.

It’s probably true. Irving was astonished by Fred’s ability to handle the melody for “Cheek to Cheek,” and that story will be coming up tonight. Score one for Mom.

I love “Cheek to Cheek”. I learned it from the Frank Sinatra LP “Let’s Dance” which my Mom used to play on my Dad’s HUMONGOUS Stereo. (Altec-Lansing Voice of the Theater Speakers...each one the size of an average washing machine)

GranDaughter has come down with something and she's had 4 days of “blow outs" in her pants". Her Mom took her to the DR.

ELLA FITZGERALD: NO STRINGSA standard can be measured by its ability to go beyond its original medium and be adapted through the decades. This 1958 recording shows Ella putting a completely different spin on the song, slowing it down and letting the lyrics soar. Her scat singing in the middle is phenomenal.

FRED ASTAIRE: ISNT IT A LOVELY DAY?While Ginger is out riding, a thunderstorm breaks, she seeks shelter in a bandstand, meets Fred, and their conversation about clouds and rain turns into a song and dance. Note how Ginger signals her change of attitude about Fred during the number.
Freds sartorial style in this scene changed the way men dressed in the Thirties. It was similar to Clark Gables decision not to wear an undershirt in 1934's It Happened One Night, which caused undershirt sales to plummet.
