CHAMPAIGN — A Social Security Administration employee who believes he shouldn't have to watch a workplace diversity video about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, because it violates his religious beliefs, fears he may lose his job because of it.
David Hall, 42, of Tolono has worked for the federal agency for 14 years, based in the Champaign office as an area systems coordinator, an information technology position.
In late April, Hall said, employees nationwide received an email from the agency about a 17-minute LGBT diversity and inclusion training video that they were told to watch at their work stations. Employees were required to certify that they had seen the video.
Hall said he is a Christian — "not anti-anyone or anything," but "for God, for Jesus" — and believes the Bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin.
So, he didn't watch it.
His supervisor gave him direct orders to do so — first on June 2, then again on June 24. Again, Hall refused both times.
As a result, an official reprimand was placed in his file — the first he has ever received, he says — and he was suspended without pay for two days, Aug. 15-16.

Stopped clock. The ACLU sometimes does the right thing. There are some believers there. Usually, though, yeah, it would be a laugher.
I agree. I accept the Word of God in Leviticus regarding homosexual sexual acts. Why do the rights of faggots trump my first amendment right to my religious beliefs? We learned that the Supreme Court upheld our beliefs supersede social engineering in Hobby Lobby!!

I always took the position that if the boss wanted to pay me to waste time instead of work, they paycheck looked the same to me either way. Sit in the back of the room with a crossword puzzle, and keep my mouth and ears shut.
And make sure my union dues were up to date.
Does he own a smartphone? We had a “town hall” at work a few months ago with the Mayor and CEO as speakers. I looked around and was just amazed at how many people were just sitting there playing with their phones. Even though the speakers were lying or being very selective in their facts, I think you should show enough respect to at least look at them.
Now, for a LGBTOMGWTFBBQ video, I would definitely break out the smartphone. He could even pull up and read the Olive Tree app.

Ive seen several ‘diversity videos’ and presentations and ALL OF THEM were HORRIBLE (extremely amateurish attempts at brainwashing, of no real value). Except one where an attorney spoke about the laws (which everyone booed and hissed at, but anyway it Was still a useful presentation under the circumstances)
Gotta wonder exactly WHY all these tyrant types are trying to cram this KRAP down everyone’s throats.... what’s it all for, anyway? Just have a non=-discrimination policy and leave well enough alone, imho. This is only riling up people and creating tons of (sometimes hostile) backlash. And the resentments are building up rapidly, too... I hesitate to predict where all this could lead...but it sure won’t be to a fairer, nicer society THAT’s FOR SURE!

What are the grounds of the denial over trying to force him to experience training literally designed to get him to abandon his religion? This is a direct assault on his 1st Amendment right to religious freedom - bald-faced. Because they can't deny the effect the video intended - it was the reason they demanded he watch it.
This sort of thing will be done much more efficiently once the reeducation camps are put in place. And now that we have restored relations with Vietnam, I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to provide advisors on how they managed their camps. Of course, if they really want to do the job right they can always get in touch with the North Koreans.
Had to go through that crap back in the 90’s. I was asked what my “ethnic heritage” was. I said American. Apparently, that was wrong.
A coule of guys (co-workers from my office) of Irish decent had a fun time calling themselves a couple of drunk’n Mics.
We gave the proctors of the lecture a seriously hard time.
