An Arctic expedition designed to raise awareness of the perils of man-made climate change is being frustrated by unexpectedly large quantities of ice.
The Polar Ocean Challenge, whose aim is to circumnavigate the Arctic in a sailing boat while the summer ice-melt allows, is being led by veteran explorer David Hempleman-Adams. He justifies the expedition thus:
Permanent irreversible change in the sea ice landscape of the Arctic seems inevitable. This will / is already having global economic political, social and environmental implications. A significant change in my lifetime.

Seems like this happens every year.
Well by the end of 2020 all the ice will be gone. No, really. The predictions said so.
Sounds like something my idiot (almost to be) son in law would say.
Thanksgiving should be fun at your house.
One word...Alcohol
HAs anybody ever told these guys that there are fossils of tropical plants found in Antarctica? The poles have not always been where they are today..............
Ice, in the Arctic? Who knew?
Well then. Maybe they need to bring their swimsuits next time.
It seems a couple of years ago a scientific expedition got stuck in the ice and two icebreakers got stuck trying to get to them...
I love it when a liberal’s plan falls apart...
They should do a little actual research BEFORE taking off to prove a myth. It’s not hard to find, you just have to know how to spot the propaganda.

A dude with a hyphenated name
Well, it’s not the RIGHT KIND of ice, you see.
It’s the kind of ice that won’t get Hillary elected so it’s bad ice. It’s the kind of ice that keeps the black man down. It’s the kind of ice that causes starvation for trillions of African children who can no longer get free internet because the SpaceX “reusable” (To a point, apparently) rocket couldn’t deliver Mark Zuckerberg’s human-race saving satellite. Yes, the same rocket that is powered by totally abundant and renewable stuff so we can all worship it over the old two rocket platform that worked for NASA for 35 years. That old system was built by old white men and the new rocket is built - for free - by a single man.
He invented the electric car too !
You see the ice they encountered was old, white and racist. And male too. And capitalist and rich.
Oh my god, I just took a step back and read what I posted - I could get a job at Slate !
Hmmmm. You may be on to something there. Ice appears ‘white’ so ice is apparently oppressing black people all over the world. We better get colon krapernickers take on it. Dang injustice.
Take him hunting............but don't bring him back.
I hope the Ghost of Captain Sir John Franklin gets them
But could you live with your hair looking like a bird nest?
Because people who work for Slate are unable to face themselves in the mirror.
Hmm...racist ice. It is awfully white, isn’t it? I suspected it all along...
They are not the only ones. Crystal Cruises “Serenity” is, right now, in the Beaufort Sea above Alaska. It left Seward, Alaska 2 weeks ago and plans to be in New York City on Sept.16th. The 32 day passage through the Northwest Passage is hardly going to be roughing it as this deluxe ship is quite posh(*)! The thing that I do wonder about is if the outdoor pool and spas are getting much use?
While the special preparations for the trip include systems to detect ice, two Canadian ice pilots and an escort ship in case of trouble, some skeptics and conservationist criticize this effort. With up to 1,600 passengers, an emergency evacuation would be a nightmare even with a required $50k insurance on each passenger. The conservationist decry the voyage as being harmful to the delicate environment that the passengers signed up to see!
Lets see if this mild gamble pays off. FYI: (*) Posh was (apocryphal) an acronym for the best accommodations on round trips from England to India [Port Out, Staboard Back] to stay in the shade. With a west-east transit through the Arctic, I wonder if the sunnier, starboard cabins went first?
