Just when it seemed like the negative image of Donald Trump as a xenophobic, racist, and cartoonish excuse for a presidential candidate was permanently stained into most of the voters' minds, someone on his campaign staff had the brilliant idea to accept the invitation to meet Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City.
And now that the meeting is over, and both Trump and Nieto have made their formal statements, it's clear Trump has been given a crucial presidential-looking shot in the arm from perhaps the one foreign leader we least expected to give it to him. But that's not where the positives for Trump end, not by a long shot.
Suddenly, we now have a new context for Trump's long-awaited speech on immigration. Before the meeting, Trump was facing a tough challenge. Several conservatives, and even one of his most ardent supporters in Ann Coulter, had been getting much attention as they accused Trump of flip-flopping on illegal immigration and especially the deportation question. There are reports the Trump campaign is hoping to gloss over deportation at least somewhat by focusing on securing the southern border with Mexico instead. That seems like it might be a tough needle to thread. But now that Trump is making the speech coming directly from that border, that new focus suddenly becomes more plausible.
The buzz is now about the Mexico meeting and fewer people are talking about deportation. And since President Peña Nieto himself made border security part of his own set of priorities in his portion of the news conference, this entire event is amounting to something of a home run for Trump and his quest for legitimacy.

Peña Nieto recommended this meeting.

Was it written by anyone that could find his own ass in the dark with both hands?

Wow, that’s a real hand shake, not just another Trilateral Illuminist “sign.”

Well, bless you, my friend. I would have thought you were much younger.
Gracious Trump allowed El Presidente to top hand.
No doubt. I’m not sure it has fully registered with the press and the pundits the magnitude of what Trump pulled off today. I was just reading a piece over at NRO and the writer said the event with Nieto went “pretty well”.
Regarding a possible deal, I wonder if maybe Trump agreed to back off of his boast that Mexico will pay for it in exchange for their public acceptance of the idea of the wall. To me that would be an acceptable concession if it kept them from being an obstacle. I’m going to be keeping and eye on whether the bit about them paying for it stays in his speeches.
Someone on his staff?
JHC, they don’t give this guy credit for anything.
The invitation was extended and Trump accepted. End of that point...
They’re gonna find jeb one day with a note beside him.
Trump is successfully sand-bagging folks and I missed it the other day.
He says he’ll send all illegals “criminals that is” back starting basically day one. He says the cops know who and where they are. Done!
Then he craftily says he may not deport some. This sounds terrible, like backtracking.
Then he says, all freebies will be cut off. Another words he won’t have to deport. They’ll self deport. You can’t survive here with government freebies.
That Trump guy is clever. He’s avoided the downside press, and will achieve the exact same thing.
Jake Novak will soon be looking for work.
This was Trump at his best.
It was a risk. He took it and he won. It could really have big results for him as he needs to pass the “He can be president” test. These optics will help for sure.
The body language tells the whole story, that is the language of a conqueror and it is natural to Trump. He is at ease and confident.
Mr. Trump is amazing.
First 50 stories on google search about Trump going there is the “BIG DIFFERENCE” in what each said about the wall.
I $####ING HATE the media SO MUCH.
I hate that #### who owns google and ALL MSM alphabets.
Those ####s.
Felt good to tweet to all of them they’re gonna be sick to their stomachs on 11/9
Of that I am certain. I bet we will not hear that statement any further from Trump's lips. I've noticed about Trump that if you give him what he wants, he turns the charm back on.
To me that would be an acceptable concession if it kept them from being an obstacle.
As with me.
Im going to be keeping and eye on whether the bit about them paying for it stays in his speeches.
I will be shocked if we ever hear it again from Trump. It may be brought up as a question, and I hope he is read for that, but I doubt he will ever say it again.
He must have done very well ... the MSM pimps and pimpettes were spinning like tops!!!
Its one of the tenets of,"The Art of the Deal". Masterful.
the CNN crew are almost in tears trying to knock Trump..this was a grand slam. The Mex prez looked like he was gonna faint he was so nervous. I honestly think this is a turning point. He does ok in the debates, he wins ez.
