For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isnt a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. Its a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.
Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.
Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.
Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to get these bums out.
Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, (w)ere going to take a very serious look at establishing term limits.
While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.
Part of the mess were in as a country especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.
One rarely (if ever) does this because theyre fighting for their constituents. Theyre addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

I Pray He guts the place
America is tired of professional politicians who’ve been in office for decades.
Crush these bastards.
Excellent..!
Let’s clean out all the DEAD WOOD..!
There is soooo much of it, especially in that entity for traitorous FOOLS, the GOP..!
THROW THEM ALL OUT..!
—> BEST ELECTION EVER...!!! <—
and make English the official language
Term limits are a bad idea. It will limit people’s representation even more.
Government will not be term-limited, the executive branch won’t be limited, government bureaucracies and the lifers and ideologues within them will not be limited.
Congress already has less power than before. Term limits will just make them even more impotent relative to massive nanny state.
New Contract With America:
Article 1:
I deal only with YOU, the American People
Article 2:
Vote the bums out!
In addition, take away their pay and return Congress to being part time. Let earn their money at their real jobs at home.
Not really. All it does is make the unelected bureaucracy more powerful.
That is definitely way up on the latter of FIRSTS
Another of the “best” ideas Trump has had...I hope he can pull it off...
Knowing how these “professional politicians” love their gravy train though, this is a dangerous idea to Trump’s health....
This would require a constitutional amendment. Article V makes Congress a participant in the formulation of amendments. The president is not a participant in this process.
I wish that were the case, but look at Paul Ryan, Linda Graham, etc. They win their primaries with 60%+ of the vote
They have used and abused thier public service job
Our founding fathers didn’t put it in the Constitution because they all felt that people understood that you were elected, you came, you served, then you went back to your law practice or your farm and someone else served...
If we can elect the right people, they can gut the bureaucracy. No government unions. Budget accountability. Get rid of entire agencies and lay off the bureaucrats.
I support cutting the federal workforce by 50%.
Then take a look and consider further cuts.
No Omnibus Bills.
Bills should not be more than 10 pages, single space, both sides.
Congress should only be in session from May 1 through October 31 with NO AC.
A better idea, better than term limits for Congress, is to dismantle the federal bureaucracy.
Listen: with “term limits” for Congress, the apparatchiks in the bureaucracy, people who are lifelong “civil servants” will become the masters.
Imagine: an EPA full of mid-level managers, or an FCC or FDA or ATF agents who fear no elected official...because they know all they have to do is “out last” them.
Seriously—Congress needs to destroy the power of the bureaucrats. Our Constitution in Article I Section 1 says the legislative powers of the federal government are vested in CONGRESS. Today (and since the New Deal) the bureaucrats have been writing regulations, rules, and regimens for every single aspect of American life. These have the EFFECT of LAW.
Time for THAT to end before we do term limits.
