5th force of nature possibly discovered, US physicists say

Scientists are ecstatic over the fact that they may have just discovered the fifth fundamental force of nature. The possible discovery of a previously-unknown subatomic particle looks set to finally bring the elusive dark matter into the mix.

The discovery centers on a new type of boson that possesses characteristics previously unseen in particles. Furthermore, its existence casts doubt upon whether the known ‘sector’ of matter and particles exists alongside a ‘dark’ sector – both interacting with each other via another, unseen force.

“If true, it's revolutionary,” said Jonathan Feng, professor of physics & astronomy at the University of California, Irvine, in a press release.

“For decades, we've known of four fundamental forces: gravitation, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces. If confirmed by further experiments, this discovery of a possible fifth force would completely change our understanding of the universe, with consequences for the unification of forces and dark matter.”

Is this a truly remarkable discovery or...simply the latest attempt by theoretical physicists to justify their belief in dark matter? I guess we'll know when they actually discover the X-boson.

What's the big deal? I've know about it for a long time. It's called the force of human stupidity, and it explains the presence of the current turd in the white hut and the popularity of the wicked witch. It explains why socialists keep trying their proven loser of a society, and why idiots keep voting for them. It's a very powerful force.

Is that the boson that gives X-Men their powers?

I this dark matter; it’s no theory. It is real. Liberalism.

Subatomic is too nice a word.

5th FORCE OF NATURE

Did you know that God dwells in thick darkness? That the God of light, at times, dwells in darkness? This idea flies in the face of much of our imagery and imagination about God. After all we so often hear that God is light (1 John 1:5) and that the Lord will be our light (Isaiah 60:19) and this is true. But what is also true is that “The Lord has said he would dwell in thick darkness” (1 Kings 8:12).

...justify their belief in dark matter...

It’s kinda funny, in a way. If someone believes that dark matter may explain things scientists observe that make no sense otherwise, they are considered the cutting edge of science. If someone thinks it’s God, they are considered of low intelligence and understanding.

Yet it is not dark matter that explains the genuine miracles in my life.

Oh well. Carry on.

Force of Nature?

Chuck Norris couldn't be bothered to comment.

The fact that it was published in Physical Review Letters, while certainly not making it true, means that the authors convinced the leading physics journal that they are not whack jobs and that the announcement is worthy of serious consideration and investigation.

There is plenty of evidence that dark matter exists. The problem is that we have no idea about its properties - how it interacts with other matter except through gravitation at very large scales.

I read with dismay that the X boson is a photophobe. Decent people should find this behavior repulsive.

Then what of so-called “dark energy”? It’s supposedly unrelated to so-called “dark matter”.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became as fools.

I always get such a kick out of these people. They think they’re so much smarter than the rest of us, yet they are only DISCOVERING something. Imagine the brilliance of the One who created it all!

Actually, the article says this new particle casts (further) doubt on the existence of Dark Matter. IOW, this particle apparently makes it possible for the universe to behave the way it does without Dark Matter.

I just want my Repulsorlift technology. These scientists need to stop dinking around with this stuff and get busy working on the really important problems.
