Thomas Gibson has been fired from “Criminal Minds” following an on-set fight.

“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from ‘Criminal Minds,'” ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a joint statement Friday. “Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”

Gibson, 54, was initially suspended for two episodes of the CBS series after a physical altercation with co-executive producer and writer Virgil Williams two weeks ago.

On Friday, Gibson told Page Six in a statement, “I love ‘Criminal Minds’ and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”

The actor had previous on-set outbursts, TMZ reported, including one in which he pushed an assistant director and was subsequently sent to anger management courses.

I read this earlier today. I quit watching it some time ago. To morbid for me. I liked him in it. I also see they have a CSI Miami actor in it now. Never liked Sheemar ever since he stood up trying to get a standing 0 when at the time his gal pal Berry won that oscar.

Yep...CM has has an exceptional run, but it has been old for some time now. With Gibson leaving, I see a ratings collapse fairly quickly...

Kind of ironic, given the unflappable character he plays.

“I love ‘Criminal Minds’ and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years.

I think I may see the problem.

All of them, working on a "serial killer training show" must have spiritual problems by now.

I know a guy who worked as an extra several times over the years on Criminal Minds. He said Gibson was a real nasty individual.

Heck, I thought that was Mandy Patinkin!

Mandy Patinkin left the show because of the emotional cost of dealing with such dark morbid subjects day in and day out.

We quit watching it for the same reason.

“He said Gibson was a real nasty individual.”

That’s an understatement. I worked on CSI Miami and the producers didnt want him even though Moonves pushed for this clown. Even when working on Burn Notice, his name came up and there were red flags. Just like the NFL, studios have their own insider records.

I read the book "Mind Hunters" that the series was based on before the series started. Pretty good book about the founding of the FBI's BAU. One tidbit was how the BAU advised the prosecutor to touch Wayne Williams (the Atlanta child serial killer) on the arm while cross-examining him in order to provoke him in front of the jury. It worked, and he was convicted. Up until that point it looked like he was going to walk. Another interesting tidbit was about Edmund Kemper, the only killer that the author had sympathy for. The guy's mother had treated him like a monster, and it made him one. One day he realized that it had to stop, so he killed his mother and turned himself in. He had real remorse and knew that he should never be a free man again.

The series went formulaic real fast, especially after Mandy Patinkin's Jason Gideon character left. The show should have ended long ago.

I loved the show back in the day, thought it jumped the shark when the original female lead went rogue and then was forced off the team.

He’s a great character on the show. I think it’ll be crap without him.

I gave up on CM with the Amy Prentice Secret Agent episodes.

It was enough that they killed her off in a season ending cliff hanger.

But they brought her back to life later.

At that point, I quit watching.

They also ‘removed’ one of original characters — the blond. The excuse was that some other (non-FBI) agency demanded her on become part of their staff. That does not happen. If she had requested a transfer ... but she didn’t. Then, a season or so later, she returned.

It was also getting a bit gory with new ways for sadists to kill people.

It’s time for the cast of “Dharma & Greg” to get back together.
