You galz know that the best time for watching the Perseids meteor showers is around 2:00AM, right?

Take pictures for me, will you?

Tell you the truth.....I’ve watched for those meteors for years and never saw any to speak of. I’d rather have the water showers. LOL! They’re nearly as scarce, though. :)

Yep. That’s when I normally go out but some folks head out earlier.

Got my blanket and pillow ready to haul out the driveway to lie on and watch the show ......... provided the clouds stay away.

You folks living out in the country, away from the city lights will definitely have the best viewing spots.

Really? I’ve watched for years, too, and have seen some splendid shows. There are some years that aren’t so good but most are decent enough.

Is there a lot of lighting where you live? That makes a difference. Need to be away from city lights to get the best viewing. When I lived in Raleigh, that meant driving a few miles out of town but I did it when I could.

Here, I just walk halfway between the house and the road to get clear of trees and lie down. A benefit to living in the boonies.

If we could get a good rainfall tonight, I’d happily give up the show for it but since it’s not going to rain, those clouds BETTER stay away!

Indeed.

The only thing we have to worry about is varmints sneaking up on us. Possums and raccoons can be scared off easily enough but we have skunks around here too. Do NOT want one ambling up! LOL!

Nah, we live in town and have street lights everywhere! I even went outside town one year and still didn’t see much. However, it WASN’T at 2am. LOL!

Dang. Streetlights really do mess things up for viewing. It’s a pain to have to drive a ways in the middle of the night to have a chance for good viewing. Most years aren’t exceptional but are decent enough. Not really worth drive though.

IF they’re correct about this year, it would be worth the drive. Sometimes they predict a fabulous show and it doesn’t pan out. We’ll see what happens. Just checked outside again and ALL the clouds are gone. Yay!

It would be nice! Usually when we have a good year, we have clouds. ‘Bout time Mother Nature was kind. LOL!

We missed all the lunar eclipses the past two year due to clouds. We did manage to catch an ever-so-brief glimpse of the last one through a small break in the clouds but that was it.

I’ll be sick if it’s cloudy next Aug. when we have a solar eclipse. It’ll be total or almost total in OR, ID, WY, NE, KS, MO, KY, TN, GA, SC, and NC. I’m reeeeeeeally looking forward to that!

Yeah! LOL!

Actually almost two years. I found an article about it last Sept. and copied it into a Word doc to save. Don’t want to forget about this one. I’ve never seen a total solar eclipse and this is my one shot at it since I don’t get to travel. It’s going to be creepy cool, even with clouds, since it’ll get dark in the middle of the day.

I think I’ve seen one, but can’t remember for sure. Seems like it doesn’t get completely dark because of the fiery ring at the edge of the shadow across the sun, but sort of a odd twilight. Very eerie, though.

I’ve seen a couple that were fairly close to total but not total.

It won’t get pitch dark like it is now but it’ll get plenty dark to be creepy.

I wonder if the dogs around here will raise a ruckus like they do during lunar eclipses. Critters apparently don’t like that sort of stuff.

That would be interesting to note. How about the kittehs? Do they go bonkers, too?
