Outgunned, outmanoeuvred, hopelessly outnumbered and besieged in the Afghan desert, a small band of British soldiers chose to save a final bullet for themselves rather than fall into Taliban hands.
For nearly two months, the 88 men of Easy Company a mix of Paratroopers and the Royal Irish had faced the overwhelming force and firepower of up to 500 Taliban determined to over-run the remote Helmand outpost of Musa Qala.

See post 20.
2 months? Something smells.
If true, this is what Americans can expect if Hitlary gets elected. She loathes the military so don’t look for her to give orders to save them, history WILL repeat itself as was previously displayed in Benghazi.
Good read. No wonder it’s been kept quiet. Somebody screwed up somewhere leaving those guys all alone.
Britain is there as our ally! They deserve a better POTUS than the scum we have now!
Some might, not all though - especially vets.

Someone screwed up big time and tried to bury it. Horrible. Putting a soldier in a position to have to put a bullet in his head so as not to be tortured to death must take its toll.
Thank you for your service.
The Brits were also surrounded in Basra Iraq and we’re not allowed to fie counter battery. Finally the Iraqis rescued them.
I wouldn’t know about that.
I bet they are tough as nails, but traumatized too.
My uncle was at the Bulge and we didn’t know he had nightmares until he died and my mother told us.
As far as North Africa, we didn’t have the means to help those guys. It was awful.
England had the MEANS AND US to help them!!
GW was president and though I dont like him for other reasons, he would have ABSOLUTELY sent in the marines!!!
This is horrific.
Our air assets would not have been spared if called upon by our Brit brothers.
That’s what the polls say.
And a small percentage of FReepers will tell you that they could have held the position with a sharpened stick, but sticky keys are the closest they’ve come to combat.
These Brits are heroes, and whoever oversaw this flustercluck from a strategic viewpoint should be cashiered.
It is horrific and those soldiers must have been hurt mentally. How could they not be? While the queen sipped her tea, this was happening. What is there to say?
Ping later
I saw a documentary on the battle of El Alamein.
They interviewed a large number of British and German veterans. Both sides put up with extreme hardships but the main one for the Germans was lack of water.
One of the German tankers said that after the British got American Grant and Lee tanks, the Germans were out gunned.
The one advantage the Germans had was the 88mm cannon. It was rapid fire, accurate, high velocity and extremely effective. One British tanker told of an 88 just knocking their tanks out one after another. One of their tanks finally got it but not until they had lost 6 or 7 tanks to it.
These Brits are heroes, and whoever oversaw this flustercluck from a strategic viewpoint should be cashiered.

This stinks of a major screw up and CYA.
In North Africa, they would send the American soldiers into machine gun fire where soldier after soldier was chopped in half. This is what the Afghanistan thing feels like. Total screw up.
I’m speechless. This MUST become a movie.
Were the Coms down? It is my understanding that the US does back up in situations like this? What gives?
