Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has clashed with Illinois Democrats on big issues like the state budget and the influence of unions, but he recently he bucked the party line on legislation the GOP has fervently opposed: expanding birth control coverage and access to abortions.
Not a single Republican voted in favor of either bill.
So last week, Rauner surprised some Republican legislators and angered conservative groups when he signed both Democrat-sponsored measures. One of them extends insurance coverage for nearly all contraceptives and the other requires physicians who refuse to perform abortions or other health care services for moral and religious reasons to provide information to patients on where they can go instead.
Immediately after Rauners decision, the head of one religious group called him a traitor, and some conservative lawmakers were befuddled.

That is barbaric.
If I were one of those physicians, I would spend a decent amount of time educating the patient about fetal development--preferably with videos of living fetuses and a discussion about brain development and the ability to feel pain--and the long-term effects of abortion before giving any such referral.
It is not the government's place to try to force abortion. In fact, the idea that government should even allow abortion is highly questionable.
I think Rauner forgets unfortunately just Who he ultimately answers to. He is putting the state of Illinois in jeopardy of God’s wrath. So sad.
GOV. RAUNER is an in your face liberal.
Last year he pulled the same thing with HB 217 the Conversion Therapy Prohibition Bill Therapy for minors with unwanted, unchosen gay identities is now illegal.
As a result of RAUNER signing this latest vile act, physicians, hospitals as well as crisis pregnancy centers will be forced to discuss the benefits of abortion and refer the patient to a place where they can get an abortion
Rauner ran for office as a fiscal conservative with no social agenda. Regrettably voters believed him. He stands accountable to God Almighty for his decision to sign a bill into law that will potentially cause unborn babies to lose their lives.
This will be rememberd as the moment when a group of Catholic bishops came out in favot of persecution of Christians—and in favor of abortion. This is the katholyk church of Bergoglio and Cupich.
I see no problem with this...If they want pro life centers, nurses and doctors to give them info on abortion ,do so...Tell minority and poor women that Planned parenthood works to get rid of their populations..Get the proof from PP archives. It`s there.Show them the baby being ripped apart from an abortion..It`s the law.You are just following the law
[I see no problem with this...]
Pregnancy centers legally have to educate at risk mothers about abortion. BUT NOW they will be forece to tell them where to get one. Pregnancy centers are about saving lives.
Thanks, @Olog-hai.
Rauner’s a Democrat. Of course he supports this stuff.
It appears the disease of immorality is now in its last stages of killing morality and true conservatism within the Republican Party.
The same sociopathic, narcissistic, and psychotic nature of evil, which has been at war with God, once largely prevalent with humanistic left-wing socialists, is now rampant and palatable within the Republican Party.
Lincoln would not recognize the murderous nature of his own party today.
What was once properly understood within Natural Law as true and just, has now been exchanged for rebellion against Natural Law and evil!
What was once good is now evil to those who have chosen to call evil good!
This will all come to an end one way or another... and probably both!
The Democrat Party now effectively controls both major parties in Illinois.

I haven't heard a peep out of any of the protestant churches in Illinois either (or any other religious group for that matter). The only people discussing Rauner signing the bill are online conservative forums like this one. Otherwise, the silence is deafening.
I’m surprised that not a single RINO in the legislature voted for either the bills. How refreshing.
Ping for later
No Illinois voter should be surprised by Rauner’s signing the abortion bill. Before the 2014 primary, he told thousands of people that he was pro-choice.
I agree. I wasn’t surprised at all that Rauner signed it. He gave every impression that he was 100% pro-abortion just like Kirk.
But I am surprised that no RINOs in the leg voted for it.
