...Ghostbusters has a reported production budget of $144 million and a print and advertising budget rumored to be around $100 million (it may be much more). So, at a minimum, the distributor needs to rake in about $250 million at the box office to break even.
But heres the thing the author of the Houston Press piece seems to have momentarily forgotten. The distributor only collects about half of the money that comes in to the box office. The exact amount varies from film to film and depends on which weekend were talking about but, in general, the distributor takes a little more than half of the box office (this piece from 2011 says 55%). The figure is slightly less overseas so 50% is a good rule of thumb.
What this means is that in order to make back all the money spent producing and advertising the Ghostbusters reboot, the film needs to make around $500 million at the global box office.

What you said right there is awesome in that it is a metaphor for our modern times overall.
I won’t see anything with Sean Penn in it.
He hates me and my values.
He is the enemy of civilization and a proponent of savagery.
Houston Press sucks and has no value unless you’re looking for homo hand jobs, in which case those ads are in the very back.
Their food reviews used to not suck.
Yes, but they had another GB script in the can for years before that. Murray wouldn’t do it since Ramis was involved.
Giving up the fight while the battle rages is no way to go through life...
Because they thought it would make money.

Winston Zeddemore: Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.
***Hollywood cant make a good movie today.***
Thirty years ago it was said that to make up for a bad script you spent extra on Special Effects. Kind of like dangling beads in front of the natives.
Today movies are CGI driven, no real plot needed. I’ve seen what could have been some real good dramas ruined by excess CGI.
Already been done. Not quite all lesbian.

Stop giving them ideas!
***Why? Hwood is out of ideas,***
There used to be an old joke about their being only twenty nine basic plots for movies and TV shows.
The punch line is...”What are the OTHER twenty four?”
Ever notice how the James Bond series recycled the same plot over and over back in the 1970s and 1980s?

Hah! Yes, yes, it is.
Every single one of her lines in that movie was supposed to be funny because she’s black.
That is the only purpose that she served, but she didn’t serve it, because she wasn’t funny.
It honestly felt like she was reading them directly off a piece of paper that she was holding in her hands. Delivery was pitiful!
And this is coming from someone who does think she is funny on SNL and some tv commercials.
I wont even rent it on redbox, much less waste money or time on it at the box office. I have my DVD of the original, which I would much rather watch and enjoy.
Lesbian chic doesn’t sell.
Mel Gibson’s upcoming Hacksaw Ridge looks good. No one flies or wears a cape at all. Weird!
