I was thinking of the cold war period, during my lifetime.
It seemed to me that, compared with the followers of Islam, the USSR was somewhat restrained.
I guess that, when I consider it more carefully, that statement is really not true. The downing of KAL 007 was clearly one such case. There was also the killing of an American soldier by East German border guards in the 1980s, unfortunately I cannot find his name. I'm sure there are many others I'm forgetting.
