Burglar dies after AL homeowner catches him breaking into house, duct tapes mouth, ties him to tree

Authorities said a suspected burglar is dead after an Alabama homeowner tied him to a tree after catching the man breaking into his home.
Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer said 68-year-old Nathanial Johnson caught 31-year-old Cleveland Jones Gully breaking into the back door of his home, about 60 miles north of Mobile, on Friday just before midnight, AL.com reported.
Johnson, who told deputies his home had been robbed previously, had set up a trap that night in an effort to stop any more burglaries from taking place at his mobile home....

All the breathing goes through the nose and if that becomes congested for a number of reasons than he can’t breath. The nose is not enough. Taping a mouth is extremely risky.

I know in NYC/USSR, I’d be found guilty already before a trial!!
If (GOD FORBID!) one of my nephews broke into a house and got lead, I’d be crushed but I’d hold no grudge.
If they got caught and were later suffocated to death, I’d be looking for my pound of flesh.

Duct Tape - Is there anything it can’t do?
Actually it doesn't tape ducts very well. After awhile it starts to deteriorate and becomes brittle and useless causing ducts to fall off or come apart.

If duct tape was available, why was electrical tape used to secure the burgler to the tree? Electrical tape is pretty much worthless for anything except wrappping wired connections

Duck tape can easily slide off from around the mouth unless wrapped plenty of times over.
He either overaped his mouth or overtaped his thorax.
