One candidate paraded his veep choices through Twitter and openly mused about their qualifications. The other kept her shortlist confidential and her opinions private.
One had instant regrets about his decision. The other always seemed to be heading towards the same destination.
One needed a safe pick to balance his own volatility. The other chose a safe pick because they are kindred souls in earnest wonkery.
Both in the manner of their selection and the content of their character, the veep picks of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton open yet another chasm between the Republican and Democratic nominees.
Dont be fooled by appearances. Mike Pence and Tim Kaine may both look like mild-mannered establishment types who came straight out of central casting. And they may well be headed for the most tedious vice-presidential debate in recent history.
But there the similarities end.

Hillary's media whores can't apply enough makeup and lipstick to make this sow presentable as a presidential candidate.
Yeah, a grown up liar and scumbag.
It shows that she’s cracking, when she sacrifices black votes to take a white man just because she likes him.
Or melting.
I guess that makes Trump the child prodigy.
“Grown up”....yeah.....right: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/07/22/hillary-clinton-picks-senator-tim-kaine-as-running-mate/
The Guardian - the paper of record for Britain’s poofters.
One had instant regrets about his decision.
WTH?
SHE’S the grown up? Great! So does that make Kaine her Enfant’ Terrible’? Coulda fooled me!
it shows that she’s afraid of elizabeth warren
That wouldn’t surprise me.
At least Bill knew you had to move to the center to win.
Hill doesn't know that and Bill is now senile.
Buh bye, Hill.
Ohhhh, gawd............
Bill was a centrist.
Back when I was a Democrat, the Democrat Leadership Council embodied my views on where the Democratic Party should be - in the middle where most Americans are.
I voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 after I read his book and I agreed with practically everything in it.
Today those days are gone and moderate Democrats are extinct as the Dodo.
Hillary is a hardcore leftist feminist, true believer. She’s not where most Americans are.
The funny thing about what you said (it’s true) is that a huge number of the far left won’t vote for her. She tried to pander to them with almost no effect. They really do not like her! In fact, outside of the old guard elite and the mainstream media (one and the same) few people appear to like her.
That is why I struggle to believe the polls - when you separate the Obama coalition into their subgroups she is polling far below his numbers with a few exceptions. She is barely campaigning and spends most of her limited time and energy on fundraising.
This guy is letting his evident bias cloud his judgment. The Kaine pick on the surface seems safe, but it will leave a lot of Bernie supporters with their panties in a serious twist.
Hillary could stay home for the next few months and she’ll still get around 40% in November.
What difference does it make indeed - whether or not she campaigns?
Just waiting for all that background stuff on him to be brought forward.
