A U.S. Navy sailor was sentenced Friday to two-and-a-half years hard labor for raping a Japanese tourist in Okinawa.
Justin Castellanos, 24, who was based in the district's Camp Schwab, pleaded guilty in May to raping the 40-year-old victim in his hotel room in Naha, south Japan on March 13.
The serviceman had found the woman, who was drunk and asleep in the hotel lobby, and taken her up to his room where he assaulted her.
'I am sorry for what I have done,' he told the court. 'My heart is filled with regret,' Stars and Stripes reports.

Uh, don’t we want the manufacturing base back in America so people can work with good wages? Not for prisoners to do cheap labor?
What exactly is "hard labor."
I mean, what sort of labor must the prisoner do?
What if the prisoner doesn't do the "hard labor?"
What if the prisoner can't do the "hard labor?"
Well, you could rip the gonads and penis off and be done with it.
Seems a start in the right direction.
BTW most of those places that have harsh penalties for minor crimes are not democracies, so they don't have the same political needs that the government Iraq has.
Manual labor; I wouldn’t trust them with anything else, either. And make it HURT - sunburn, blisters, mosquito bites, etc. :)
Ooops, looks like I mis-directed my comment. It was meant for CS
UAW knows plenty; I grew up in Flint! Left before I grew old, too.
My marine grandson is currently on Okinawa, and this incident has had the locals stirred up. Not friendly at all to US servicemen right now.
This POS should have been sentenced to at least 10 years. He not only raped her, he also kidnapped her.
UAW is a good gig, if you can get in. Sleep, drink, and smoke dope on the job. All you have to worry about is being sober/straight enough to tow the boat to the cottage up north on the weekend.
We could have had an agreement, just not blanket immunity.
Hard Labor in a Japanese prison is Hell.
I had lost my gaijin card and was IDed by police a little over a year ago... Had to spend 23 days in a Japanese jail while they investigated to see if I was who I said I was. In 23 days, I lost 40 lbs, had to sleep on the floor and could not use anything as a pillow (including the shirt I was wearing)... If I used the shirt, they would take it from me and put it in a locker ;p Cannot play games (I had hand drawn a chessboard and each individual piece... a guard saw it, took the pieced.. looked and told me (in Japanese) that I did a great job making all of the set... then threw them in the trash laughing :/ (it took me about 4 hours to make that board.. and the paper I had used was personally bought (notebook)... they supply the pen but not the paper to write on.
About day 3, the embassy sent someone over, after I had to threaten the guards/police for several hours... and the embassy did..... NOTHING to help. They are useless.
I was released after the 23 days (and interrogations ANY hour of the day or night) after they finally proved to themselves that I am a White Christian that is who he said he was that is NO threat. :p
>.<
2 & 1/2 years for rape is an embarrassment of a sentence. May he have a little encounter with her enraged father and brothers upon release and get beat like a xylophone by a hyperactive toddler.
Yep, criminals think of prison as “Three hots and a cot.”
