Lawmaker: Second Amendment Applies to Muskets, So Eliminate Assault Weapons

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.C.) joined other Democrats to call for the reinstatement of the federal assault weapons ban, arguing that the Second Amendment only applies to muskets.

“This is something as a non-lawyer that I have had trouble with from the very beginning. When the framers of our Constitution considered the Second Amendment, they were talking about muskets,” Coleman said during a news conference outside of the Capitol Building on Tuesday.

So on guns Ms. Coleman is a ultra strict originalist. So does that apply to abortion, gay marriage, etc too in regards to the 14th amendment too? Does the 1st amendment only apply to publications made by Gutenberg type presses?

And freedom of the press only applies to hand pressed single sheet newsprint. It is an amazement to me that liberals have the intelligence to breathe.

Then Democrats should not be able to use electronic media to put forth their horseshit ideas, nor distribute money they’ve stolen from working people.

No, because it doesn’t fit the narrative.

This day and time it is hard to provide for the common defense with a musket.

I wonder if the Congresscritter uses social media, the internet, etc to spread her views?

Peter King (RA, NY) wants to vote for the ban too.

Ms Coleman should look up the original Cassius Clay. He Tennessee optician and abolitionist who put cannons on his roof to keep slavery supporters at bay.

They would ban muskets, too. Eventually.

Hey, in many major cities and even States, you can’t shoot off fireworks. Even sparklers are prohibited.

No doubt that the Feds would eventually get around to banning muskets, too. The justification: the powder used in muskets can be used to make a bomb.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I don't think they misspelled "militia".

The dims have vetted this talking point and thinks it gains traction.

Until someone with smarts points out the limitations this would place on the First Amendment.

Which explains why they were much better marksmen. They had to be. Today’s guns just make it so people who can’t aim can still get the job done.

Freedom of speech only applies to actual speech, not electronically transmitted communication.

Freedom of the Press only applies to letterpress printing, not electronic communication or even printed communication from an offset press.

Peter King (RA, NY)...I hate that fat, loudmouthed idiot. Why is he on TV all the time? And who decided that this jerk represents all Republicans?

I actually agree with her. Muskets were military grade weapons in their day. So we should follow the Founder's logic and be allowed to own military-grade weapons.

Too bad we allow illiterates to be elected to serve in positions where they can influence the creation of legislation. Letters of Marque and Reprisal allowed cannons at the time. The 2nd amendment says "arms". It places no restriction on the nature of "arms" aside from the suggestion that they are useful objects for a militia whose purpose is to maintain a "free state" i.e. one free of tyranny from foreign or domestic enemies.

As stupid as she is, I’m surprised she didn’t say the 2nd Amendment meant that everyone had the right to walk around with their sleeves rolled up...
