Trump Slashes TV Appearances as Advisers Clash Over Controlling His Message
Fox News ^ | Friday, July 8, 2016 | Howard Kurtz

Donald Trump, in a sharp shift in strategy, is now refusing to appear on many television outlets, and top advisers who want to limit his exposure are no longer notifying him of every interview request.

According to sources familiar with the campaign, one faction is worried that the constant rounds of interviews entail too much risk of the candidate making mistakes or fanning minor controversies, even though his mastery at driving the media agenda helped power his Republican primary victory.

A series of clashes over these and other tactical questions has caused Trump himself to openly question who is running his campaign, the sources say. And he has expressed anger when he believes his orders aren’t being followed.

On the media front, Trump is no longer appearing on CNN or MSNBC. He is staying off the Sunday talk shows. Nearly all his national television interviews since June 1 have been with Fox News.

This more restrictive approach, combined with recent incidents in which some aides have acted contrary to Trump’s wishes, suggests a power shift as his children and especially his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, play an increasingly influential role.

Trump, who has resumed his full-throated denunciations of the media—such as calling CNN the Clinton News Network—personally vetted every TV invitation for most of the campaign. Now the staff is weeding out many requests without consulting him, the sources say, which could either be viewed as a mark of professionalization or an attempt to restrain Trump from being Trump.

Those in the caution camp want to avoid any repetition of Trump’s March sitdown with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, when he stumbled in suggesting that women should be punished for abortions. They do not share the candidate’s boundless confidence in taking on all media adversaries.

No dissension in Hitlery’s campaign since she allows no one to disagree with her.

>>that will be the last image voters have of the issue.

Hillary voters have the attention span of a kitten. The “last image” is literally the last shiny object they saw. Everything else is just a blur.

If they were thinkers, there would be no Hillary candidacy.

This happens in EVERY campaign where strong personalities are involved. All Trump needs to do is step in and TELL his employees what HE WANTS.

Trump is no shrinking violet and knows what he wants. He needs to temper his instinct at least a bit by listening to the reasoning behind the decisions of his staff. He then makes his own decisions.

Playing not to lose is not a winning strategy.

Furthermore, FOX is not - repeat NOT - your friend, Mr. Trump.

Well in the meanwhile we have the chaos hell summer of division, hate, and armies of identity politics chickens coming home to roost!

His statement on Dallas was a rare spot of sanity in a mad world.

And she deals with groups of 25. Could she really get a large gathering? I think it’s too much stress for her. I think she’s VERY sick. This may not be over.

“A reduction of exposure prior to the Convention builds anticipation”

It’s only one more week too. It’ll make the MSM more desperate to cover him and boost their ratings.

They just might try to cover him a little more fairly if he withholds interviews for a while - it worked during the primaries.

His biggest asset is his brand and ability to command exposure.

I really hope he is not being advised by the same losers as other before him. Very troubling.

This whole thing is a hit piece, put up by Hillary herself...to cause doubt in Trump, what else does she have?

I am actively working on the Trump campaign and I can assure you all that Trump is being Trump, NO ONE tells Trump what he’s going to do, when where or how and why...HE TELLS THEM...

I sent a research article I found one day to the person I send things to, and it came back to me saying ‘great job’ and that wasn’t from the person I connect to, not the style, I know where that came from...

You know when your being listened to, when the stuff you send in is being read and by whom it’s being read by, you know if it even gets to the top, in the months I have worked on the campaign, this is the first time I have received a note like that...

Trump is doing great..he knows what he is doing, he knows who is doing what, people don’t tell Trump what he’s going to do, he tells them...

Is there a counter story where the media claims they’re not booking Trump, and Trump claims he’s not accepting?

I think after Ledondoski sacking Manafort has a lock on the lead campaign advisor. Don’t think anybody is going to mess with him.

....[Trump] is staying off the Sunday [morning] talk shows....

Good! Go to Church with your family instead, and help end the DISASTROUS “Sunday morning news cycle”!!!! (Last Sunday, it was the bogus “Star of David” meme.)

On Sunday afternoon, answer the garbage that came out earlier that day, and praise the most salutary practice of Church attendance!!!!

Let’s see: FBI fails to indict Clinton yet de facto indicts Clinton showing she was lying to the American people, repeatedly.

Obama and the left condemn ALL police as racists. Voila resul five police are gunned down in cold blood by a Black Lives Matter terrorist.

Why would Teump need to do a hostile interview aimed at tripping him up and giving the opposition a sound bite when his enemies are absolutely self destructing? Never interrupt your enemies when they are making a mistake.

Nobody manages Trump but Trump. That being said he really does not have to go on every Trump hating show just because they ask. When was the last time you saw Hillary on Fox?

Trump needs to smarten up quick. He got where he is by NOT doing what other politicians do. He’s never going to be able to outpolitic the Clintons in a conventional campaign.
