Never let it be said that Newt Gingrich is predictable.
As the political world waits to see if the former Georgia congressman and U.S. House speaker gets tapped to be Donald Trump’s running mate, Gingrich teamed up with his former Crossfire partner Van Jones to discuss this week’s shootings in Dallas, Baton Rouge and Minnesota.
Speaking on Facebook Live, Gingrich was his typically direct self. But, in this age of polarized politics, whether it be of the electoral or racial variety, Gingrich’s comments were also remarkable. Here is the key quote:
“It took me a long time, and a number of people talking to me through the years to get a sense of this. If you are a normal, white American, the truth is you don’t understand being black in America and you instinctively under-estimate the level of discrimination and the level of additional risk.”

Isn’t being black in America a hell of a lot better than being black in Africa? It isn’t America that’s the problem.

The statement is clueless, pandering & self serving. It is dishonest and is the statement of someone who wants people kept on plantations. The more black people strive and succeed the more irrelevant the color of a person's skin becomes to everyone.
All nationalities and identifiable social groups have had to prove that they were going to shoulder their share of burdens, give respect, demand respect and work to succeed.
Trump has walked the walk. He has selected people of all races, ethnic origins, genders to work in his organizations and promoted them based on merit. He reaches out to all Americans.
Steel production in the USA peaked at 150 Million tons in 1973 to than 100 Million tons today. A huge drop in production.

Agree, and that is why I posted earlier that if Trump chooses Newt as VP, DT is not as astute as I believe him to be.
But I do agree with those who say Trump will pleasantly surprise us. He’ll have Newt in his administration, just not as veep.

Hard to believe he could say something so Ill- timed ( in response to a black murder attack on a bunch of Texas police). and thus politically inept — i thought newt would add a lot to the ticket but he’s forcing Donald to pick someone else now. We need a non- racist government, not one that constantly divides us by racial lines

Gee, I’m white with a blue-eyed, light brown haired son. When he started driving, I gave him a big lecture about the police. Told him not to smart off, move suddenly and everything else I could think of. According to Newt, I guess I didn’t need to do that.

In Chicago, 70% of VICTIMS have a criminal record. That is an important key to understanding crime in America - but I doubt that is what Newt was thinking about.
Where did you get those stats? Does that include all the specialty steel and mini mills?
Hopefully this Faux Pas will cool the Newt worship that I see on FR. I have no idea why so many people are so excited at the thought of having Newt as Trump’s VP. His day came & went a long time ago.
Newt is a liability, not an asset.
