Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said Wednesday he opposes a race of competitive tax cuts in Europe after Britain indicated it may slash corporate tax.
We have no intention to start some sort of race to the bottom, said Schäuble about plans by Britains finance minister George Osborne to slash corporation tax to avoid a business exodus after the June 23 Brexit vote. [ ]
Were not opposed to fiscal competition, he said, but it has to be fair, he added.

Still in denial.
Meanwhile our corporate tax is enough to make anyone head for the exits, even though there is no where to go.
No one expects the English Economic Recovery!
That’s the problem, there are places to go and going they are.
The dunce still believes the propaganda they were putting out when Cameron refused to go along with putting the big London banks under EU rules -- there was no mass exodus; or when the UK refused to join the Euro -- no mass exodus. The EU runs on agitprop. Thanks Olog-hai.
Yeah true. Maybe even to the UK.
The UK is counting on that, Wolfie.
These are the same guys that want Ireland to “harmonize” its corporate tax rate (currently 12.5%) with theirs (currently 25%).
The British will get even with the EU for trying to punish them. Once they lower taxes and beef up bank privacy for Europeans that giant sucking sound will be money being pulled out of the EU to the UK.
This crapola from Germany is absurd. The UK is Germany’s biggest trading partner in Europe. Do they propose to cut off their nose to spite their face? Both countries need a reasonable deal for the exit.
Great Britain should pursue high net worth individuals in Germany and France, by offering them citizenship and a ten year tax holiday for starting a new business in Great Britain with X number of British employees.
Red China always talks up “harmony” in society too, when they really mean it’s time to resubmit to state dictates.
race to the bottom
It’s a race to prosperity you stupid Kraut.
That’s what the EU calls “tax evasion”. No such thing as “tax avoidance” there; if you don’t pay tax you don’t even owe, it’s “evasion” from their twisted POV.
True believers in the “social market economy” will never think outside the box. You can see the POV of low corporate taxes being “unfair” in their social-justice eyes.
London is already the sixth largest "French" city in Europe. There are estimates that there are 300-400K french in London. If the Brits had their wits about them they would offer political asylum to high net worth individuals from continental Europe. Not a new idea - see Huguenots.
There’s something about Germans that I don’t like... it’s got to be part of the culture... whatever it is it keep cropping up... and offending.
