Last-ditch attempts by a group of Republican delegates seeking to stop Donald Trump from becoming the GOP presidential nominee are quickly fading -- and now their fight is facing a federal legal challenge.
At issue is whether delegates to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland are bound to vote for the results of state caucuses and primaries. A group that claims the support of hundreds of convention delegates has been pushing to change Republican presidential nomination rules so that delegates can "vote their conscience" -- reviving a long-simmering debate led by GOP purists who believe that only convention delegates -- not the millions of voters who participated in the primary process -- can ultimately pick a presidential nominee.
Carroll "Beau" Correll, one of Virginia's 49 GOP convention delegates, filed suit in federal court in Richmond on June 24 challenging a state law binding him to the results of the March 1 primary. He's a former federal prosecutor and defense attorney who supported the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.). His suit argues that the state law binding him to the primary results violates his First Amendment right to vote his "conscience, free from government compulsion."

Hes an idiot. The GOP is a private organization and he was appointed to be a delegate in a private organization where he must follow the rules of that organization. His option is to resign as a delegate if he doesnt like the rules.
And, he can vote his conscience at the polls like everyone else......
Cruz is a totalitarian and completely willing to thwart the will of the American voter to have his way.
I say let them vote their “conscience”. On his return to his home state, arrest him for breaking state law. File multiple law suits against him for violating the people’s constitutional rights; specifically, voting rights.

Because Trump is a much bigger threat to the GOP than Hillary.
If someone tried to take over the corporation that you were in charge of, would you allow it to happen? Or would you fight to keep your income and power stream coming in?
The NRC and dnc r private club that use state election mechanisms to create an air of legitimacy to their corrupt organizations. They should not be allowed to use public voting apparatus.
The parties are privatly held corporations. They can do just about anything that the charter lets them. You, and I, are not members of that corporation. IF they decided to nominate Howard T. Duck for president, they could.
Of course, they are selling a product (voters). If you cut off your supply chain, your product won’t be available to sell to the consumer, which is the politicians and power brokers. That is why Trump is such a worry. He is cutting out the middleman, and getting the product at the source instead of going through the middleman.
If the GOP doesn’t stop Trump, both parties are in deep trouble.
The Republican Party is the government? Who knew?
It is amazing that common sense and decency is now thought to heroic.
How far we have fallen, in this nanny and jackboot state we have made for ourselves.
Thank you for your service.
Evidently, to him, if you are party affiliated, you are “government”...
That tells you all you need to know.
Everything the communists have been doing for the last 100 years is unconstitutional.
You're absolutely right with that. I was a Cruz supporter, until how slimy he is started to come out. A lot here supported Cruz before that.
Thankfully he’s a former federal prosecutor. He has total disdain for the American people, typical Nwo guy.
He could but he won't because he's a lyin snake in bed with the GOPe, GS, the CFR.
In short, Cruz is a traitor.
You’ve answered your own question.
That’s right.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to Ryno.
Then why did the voters even bother to vote? The will of the voter is now overturned by both parties.
this is called “horserace journalism;” the media wants to make a “Never Trump” event at the convention a self-fulfilling prophecy. There’s not enough delegates tho; even the liberal rag Politico has admitted it. Donald J. Trump is the Republican nominee, end of story.
Cruz springs from the crowd that sponsored the Prohibition Amendment.
