That trio goes all the way back to 1797? The musicians are remarkably well preserved for 219 Year-Old geezers.
Music must be keeping them young!

SEATTLE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL PREVIEW
PROKOFIEV: 5 MELODIES FOR VIOLIN & PIANO, OP. 35
This July 25 performance features Erin Keefe on violin and Adam Neiman on piano.
Rather than write a sonata, Serge decided to bind these five short tunes together as a set. These numbers are more approachable than his many sonatas. There is dissonance, but it doesnt define the work.

SEATTLE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL PREVIEW
MOZART: OBOE QUARTET IN F, K. 370This July 29 performance features Mary Lynch on oboe, Andrew Wan on violin, Rebecca Albers on viola and Julie Albers on cello.
This is one of my favorite Mozart pieces, written in 1781 for Friedrich Ramm, the great oboist. A decade later, Ramm would slam the young and impudent Beethoven into a wall for messing with him on stage.
The first movement is marked allegro in sonata format, and its a joy, both simple and beautiful. You can tell that the oboe was Wolfgangs favorite wind instrument.
The second movement, marked adagio in D minor, could have come from the opera house. It sounds like a sopranos lament, complete with bits of ornamentation around the melodic line and a sad solo passage.
The finale, marked allegro, is a lot of fun. Being a rondo, youll hear that opening melody a lot.
