Warning: House office water tainted with lead

By Rachael Bade and Jake Sherman

06/28/16 07:37 PM EDT

A House office’s water supply has been tainted by high lead levels and may be unsafe, according to a warning blasted out to congressional offices Tuesday night.

In a “dear colleagues” letter, House office buildings superintendent William Weidemeyer told members and staff that the Cannon House Office Building was experiencing lead levels above normal, according to a recent water test.

“This week, the AOC received results within the Cannon House Office Building that indicate lead levels in drinking water sources are slightly above the EPA standard,” the email reads. “Although the cause of the increase remains under investigation, in an abundance of caution all drinking water sources and office-provided water filtration units in the building will be turned off beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016.”

The office will be providing bottled water for drinking.

So, (1) maybe that is why they act so stupid and/or (2) how many drink tap water anyway? My bet is that every office has a water dispenser on our dime.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought just about every White House office had a pallet of bottled water delivered weekly. I know for the Senate....everyone gets a couple dozen bottles weekly and they keep refrigerators to chill it. Other than for coffee use and flushing toilets, no one drinks the city water.

So according to the article, high lead levels that may be unsafe are slightly above EPA standards?

So which is it?

I would assume “slightly” means very little...

I’m sure based on their mental acuity, many democrat congressman ate paint chips as children...

So probably not a big deal the water is slightly above the minimum levels...

This may explain why those who have been there the longest, make some of the decision they make. It seems that many of the Democrats have spent many years slurping on the tainted water. That may explain why they regressed to a sit in last week.

The majority of those Congress critters need MORE lead, but I’m not talking about it being in liquid form. ;)

Heh ... I recall a report on this very thing in the 1980s: that numberable federal buildings in DC had plumbing where the linng had worn away resulting in high lead levels.

I guess it was never fixed.

Cannon House Office was built in 1908, so it's quite possible that old lead piping does exist in the building pipes.

Watch the House propose funding for a new ecologically compliant solar powered House Office building with all mod. conveniences made from sustainable components to be fastracked. NORKS will get the job.
