Once upon a time, Democrats would sit-in to press for civil rights. Today, they sit-in to take civil rights away.
How else to describe the goal of last week's 24-hour sit-in by House Democrats? They took to the floor Wednesday demanding a vote on gun control legislation in the wake of last week's terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando.
Gun ownership is a right. Due process of law is a right. The government needs to meet a very high threshold before denying citizens either one.
Rep. John Lewis led the protest, which devolved into screaming matches early Thursday. The Georgia Democrat is an undisputed hero of the Civil Rights movement. He marched with Martin Luther King Jr. and suffered a fractured skull on "Bloody Sunday" on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. "It took us three times to make it all the way from Selma to Montgomery," Lewis told reporters Thursday. "We have other bridges to cross."

That's not how it's supposed to work, at least not in what is supposed to be a Republic. You idiots looked like a bunch of spoiled brats trying to get a photo op for your own reelection. The only good thing that came out of this is that you looked like the petulant, spoiled, coddled little people that you are.
—many of them are showing their true color as authoritarian would be despots—the first Muslim member of congress, Keith Ellison, says “we didn’t have the votes, so we had to use other means”—I.E., mob rule-—
If we were half as determined and energetic, we would still be a moral country. But, alas, after some initial strong words, we tend to sit on our thumbs and grumble about the uncomfortable seat.
Due process of law is a right.
The government needs to meet a very high threshold before denying citizens either one.
Thanks Ben Boychuk ...
How far is “too far”? Let’s not concede a critical point here.

I find it not a little ironic that Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been denied the right to purchase a firearm by the very law that this "undisputed hero of the Civil Rights movement" wants to jam down our throats in the heat of the moment after a horrific massacre. You see, King was under FBI investigation. I'd love to see someone in the press or media point this out, but I'm sure that the only thing that we will hear about this is [crickets].
Dear Ms. Esty,
Odd that you would tout the fact that civil rights legend and Georgia Congressman John Lewis was leading the embarrassing "sit-in" on the House floor, as it was done in support of a measure to actually squelch our 2nd (Keep and Bear Arms) and 5th (Due Process) Amendment rights.
Have you no shame? You have done a great disservice to your constituents by your actions of pure political pandering. Tell us, how does one get on the FBIs no fly list? And why wasnt this bill brought up and passed while Nancy Pelosi was Speaker? Just pathetic.
Respectfully,
