What sent EgyptAir flight 804 plummeting into the Mediterranean Sea last month, remains a mystery. Egyptian investigators have failed to extract any information from the badly-damaged memory chips of the crucial black boxes.
Defeated, Egypt is now sending both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder to the BEA in France for analysis.
The BEA -- the French version of the NTSB -- are considered some the best in the world at analyzing this type of equipment. In a statement released on Thursday, EgyptAir said the French will "carry out repair and removal of salt accumulations."
"Then (the black boxes will be sent) back to Cairo to perform data analysis at the labs of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Just saying, it's good to rotate made up excuses.
The ‘black box’ is pretty ruggedly constructed, but the data storage unit (what you might call a hard drive) is even further isolated in a sealed armored subunit box.
Easy to understand debris and salt accumulation on the outside, even the inside of the Black box. The electronics would be damaged as well. But the actual data storage itself ? I find that hard to believe.
If equipped with the hardware, they can. It's an added cost option, not just for the hardware, but also for data usage.
Did they format the memory cards first?

It’s a bandwidth limitation. ACARS uses a high frequency radio to communicate, which is ‘slow’ to transmit data but has very good range. Basically, if you streamed the avionics telemetry from a plane in real time, you would exceed the bandwidth capability of an empty cell phone tower - per plane. In the case of cockpit audio, there’s also the issue of privacy and confidentiality.
ACARS is available to anyone with a subscription. You can read real time ACARS messages for any plane.
if there was a salt accumulation it seems maybe the boxes have already been water boarded
Egypt would favor indicating Islamic radicals that were routed from power.
The Islamic Brotherhood is egypt’s aworn enemy
statement decoded.....we don’t have the technology to recover the data....
I know what ACARS is. Why, when I can plug my phone into my headset, would I want ACARS for my plane? I can ask my wife to meet me at the airport with a cold beer....hehehehe!
I’m amazed that a tech center like Egypt couldn’t get the data.
There is no ‘Tapes’ anymore.
Everything is Digital.. RE.. Solid state.
The “Memory Chip” and associated “Motherboard” is encased into a cylinder that can sustain sledgehammer blows.. it is filled with Beeswax to prevent (sea)water from contaminating it as well as preventing “crushing Sea Depths” from collapsing the cylinder.
If the memory chip cant be read its because someone hit it with many many volts/amps to fry it.
If Egypt released the truth about what happened no one in their right mind would ever fly Egyptian Air or fly to or from Egypt ever again! Since tourism makes up the overwhelming majority of Egypt's economy their government will never release the truth or the transcripts.
