What sent EgyptAir flight 804 plummeting into the Mediterranean Sea last month, remains a mystery. Egyptian investigators have failed to extract any information from the badly-damaged memory chips of the crucial black boxes.
Defeated, Egypt is now sending both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder to the BEA in France for analysis.
The BEA -- the French version of the NTSB -- are considered some the best in the world at analyzing this type of equipment. In a statement released on Thursday, EgyptAir said the French will "carry out repair and removal of salt accumulations."
"Then (the black boxes will be sent) back to Cairo to perform data analysis at the labs of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Hard to get data off a drive with a hammer and blowtorch.
I think they mean they failed to pull data that can be revealed to us commoners. I bet what they got was quite ‘interesting’.
I still haven’t heard a thing about whether or not they’re finding evidence of an explosion on any of the debris they’ve recovered. I guess we don’t “need to know”.
Waterboarding those boxes is the only way to make them give up their data.
. . . if they haven’t already FUBAR’d it.
They have the data. What happened is known. What is not being told is political. ALWAYS. The data must be damning to the powers that be...
How convenient—no confirmation of terrorism or another Airbus crash. Personally, I think too many of the both.
because it implicates islam.
If they found the boxes they found the fuselage and bodies right?
This story totally fell off the radar.
I wonder why...
Egypt has a huge incentive to obfuscate this issue...for obvious reasons.
The data is likely that it was a terrorist attack of some sort, which is very bad news for the Egyptian economy.
Yep. File it with TWA 800.
“Looks like a fuel tank spark explosion to me.”
Yep.
Which is why we shouldn’t remember this specific plane was ‘tagged’ with jihadist graffiti and especially that this specific plane’s ‘tail number’ (most individual identifying characters) ends in “CC” - “Sisi.”
If the brought it up in perfect shape, it was sledgehammered before it was opened up.
Egypt Air suicide pilot
TWA 800
Bad news....don’t report it.
Instead of storing flight and voice data in black boxes, why can’t a plane in flight just transmit/stream the data where it can be stored in a facility on the ground?
I think they do to some extent... the so-called ACARS data. Not sure why they don’t do that with the voice data too... maybe it’s out of range in certain areas?
True. However Eqypt has already said the crash was likely terrorism.
Par for the course.
ACARS is the company phone...not much else.
