~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho

Mountain Home Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in southwestern Idaho, United States. The base is in Elmore County, 12 mi (19 km) southwest of the city of Mountain Home, which is 40 mi (64 km) southeast of Boise, via Interstate 84.

The host unit at Mountain Home since 1972 has been the 366th Fighter Wing (366 FW) of the Air Combat Command (ACC), nicknamed the "Gunfighters." The base's primary mission is to provide combat airpower and combat support capabilities to respond to and sustain worldwide contingency operations.

Mountain Home AFB is the home of the 366th Fighter Wing (366 FW), which reports to Air Combat Command (ACC). The mission of the 366 FW is to prepare Airmen and their families, professionally and personally, for expeditionary operations and foster an environment that promotes integration of all facets of wing operations.

In addition, the 726th Air Control Squadron gives an air picture to the aircraft as they train. An active Idaho Air National Guard unit, the 266th Range Squadron, controls and maintains emitter sites within the 7,412 sq miles operational training range located in southern Idaho.

Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. To support the global implementation of national security strategy, ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management, and electronic-combat aircraft.

It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations.

The size and location of the Mountain Home range complex, currently undergoing expansion, has allowed the base to support the training of airmen in numerous weapons systems over the years.

The community contended that after a recently completed $3 million renovation, Mountain Home has one of the largest ramps in Air Combat Command and is designed to support both bomber and tanker aircraft.

As many as 220 aircraft can be parked on the ramp. In addition, the base has built 600 of 1,400 new housing units planned in a ten-year program.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of a rain bird, but then we don’t ever water our lawn. A few drops of water and our grass grows like crazy. Hubby likes it when he doesn’t have to mow often. LOL!

They make so many different sprinkler styles, you’ll find something that works the way you want it to.

Thanks. I wanted to get a pic of it before it got too high. With all the dirt in the air, I knew it would be reddish and since it’s the Strawberry moon ..... :-)

The fun part is diving to the runway before the last jumper lands and beating them down.

Lynn-Dah danced all over the place when i picked her up at the “doggie camp”. And then when I brought her home, she pranced and danced all through the rooms (all four of them!) of the mobile home and almost rocked us off the footings! hahaha
