~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho

Mountain Home Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in southwestern Idaho, United States. The base is in Elmore County, 12 mi (19 km) southwest of the city of Mountain Home, which is 40 mi (64 km) southeast of Boise, via Interstate 84.

The host unit at Mountain Home since 1972 has been the 366th Fighter Wing (366 FW) of the Air Combat Command (ACC), nicknamed the "Gunfighters." The base's primary mission is to provide combat airpower and combat support capabilities to respond to and sustain worldwide contingency operations.

Mountain Home AFB is the home of the 366th Fighter Wing (366 FW), which reports to Air Combat Command (ACC). The mission of the 366 FW is to prepare Airmen and their families, professionally and personally, for expeditionary operations and foster an environment that promotes integration of all facets of wing operations.

In addition, the 726th Air Control Squadron gives an air picture to the aircraft as they train. An active Idaho Air National Guard unit, the 266th Range Squadron, controls and maintains emitter sites within the 7,412 sq miles operational training range located in southern Idaho.

Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. To support the global implementation of national security strategy, ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management, and electronic-combat aircraft.

It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations.

The size and location of the Mountain Home range complex, currently undergoing expansion, has allowed the base to support the training of airmen in numerous weapons systems over the years.

The community contended that after a recently completed $3 million renovation, Mountain Home has one of the largest ramps in Air Combat Command and is designed to support both bomber and tanker aircraft.

As many as 220 aircraft can be parked on the ramp. In addition, the base has built 600 of 1,400 new housing units planned in a ten-year program.

That’s why they built airplanes. Doesn’t take so long to get there. LOL

We spent a couple of weeks each summer at my aunt’s and uncle’s farm in IL when I was young and it was like you experienced . . . splendid sky. From that time on, my dream was to one day live in the country on a farm. Took a long time but it finally happened.

I wouldn’t mind living in the country...quiet and peaceful. But I’m totally NOT into actually farming the land. LOL! THAT’s too much work! :)

I sure admire those who do it, though!

My uncle lived in Chicago during the week and spent weekends at the farm. The farm was more hers and was a horse farm. She bred Appaloosas.
But it was surrounded by other large farms where crops were grown and it was like Heaven to me to be there in the middle of it all. So gorgeous. But definitely a LOT of work for those farmers.

Crops are grown on our farm but someone else does the work. We rent the land to him. Hubby’s family did all the work in years past but when his father got too old to do it, he made the arrangements for someone else to do it. When he died, Hubby just continued the arrangement. Works out great for all concerned. :-)

How’d things work out in your temporary location?

Just Monday homework....means less Tuesday homework. I always hope these 2 units will get me their time on Monday.

The temporary digs are quite a bit bigger. We don’t have to whisper so much, but we are in the middle of other people and their work spaces.

It will do for a few weeks or so.

Had enough light rain yesterday to water the back yard, and a little overnight. Mom thinks she heard heavy rain this weekend.

Your weather still too hot and dry? Rain in sight?

It has to be nice to have a little more elbow room even if you’re around others. That closet they set you up in is soooo tiny. Wouldn’t do to be claustrophobic!

Yay! You finally got some rain!
Did you find a new sprinkler so you’ll have it handy when you need to water the lawn again? With luck, that won’t be any time soon.

Still pretty toasty here and dry. Going to be in the 90s all week. Ugh! There are chances for rain every day but will any fall here? That’s always our big question. It always seems like it rains everywhere BUT here. We’ll see.

No new sprinkler yet. The rain bird I used was less than satisfactory.
