On June 4, the satirical news site the Science Post published a block of lorem ipsum text under a frightening headline: Study: 70% of Facebook users only read the headline of science stories before commenting.
Nearly 46,000 people shared the post, some of them quite earnestly an inadvertent example, perhaps, of life imitating comedy.
Now, as if it needed further proof, the satirical headlines been validated once again: According to a new study by computer scientists at Columbia University and the French National Institute, 59 percent of links shared on social media have never actually been clicked: In other words, most people appear to retweet news without ever reading it

Actually reading the articles and pointing this out to misguided liberals (but I repeat myself) only makes our case for conservative principles stronger. That sure as hell makes a more compelling argument than pointing to the publication or network and just saying "(Fill in the blank) is just libtard garbage".
How do I share this?
Clicking on a link to WaPo is just asking for mental herpes.
People not reading past the headline is a pet peeve with me. Someone writes a provocative headline usually claiming someone said something outrageous, and people react wildly. When you read the article the person in question didnt say what the headline stated. Always confirm for yourself that what the headline says is true. Quite often it isnt.
And thank you for your service. I rely on FReepers like yourself to do the work I can no longer stomach or need to. On the rare occasion a libtard mind produces something worth noting invaluable members of our FReeper community such as yourself are gracious enough to bring it to our attention. I am well aware of the rarity of such an event and even more grateful for the suffering you endure especially considering the rarity of the reward. You are truly one of the “unsung heroes”.
Sad. I guess if you are in your safe space it doesn't matter.
Oy vey schmeer. ( And I ain’t Jewish)
I'm strictly a bacon kind of guy
You are the thread weiner.
He’s just being a Brat.
That was a very Frank comment.
Wait a minute. Are you saying you can click on those links?
Each of my daughters and some of my friends are interested in different things than I am interested in. I will forward to them things of interest to them, not me. Sometimes I’ll read the first paragraph, sometimes just the headline.
use another browser
I would argue that the concept of sharing an unread science thread on facebook is different than posting a comment on FR.
Sharing on facebook says look at me I know science
Commenting on FRee Republic to a thread title is absolutely a correct way to live. I do it all the time
I'm working on it.
A good policy for Freepers and myself (IMHO) is to try to post fewer one-liners, read at least enough of the article to actually understand it and then post something that will actually add to the discussion. Some of us here actually do this on a regular basis. I try to do so myself. It takes more work but it is worth it.
much obliged!
