Joanne Barnaby was stalked by a wolf for 12 hours, eventually leading the animal into a trap
What's the best way to fend off a wolf that's stalking you? Bait it with a bear cub, of course.
It sounds incredible, but that's exactly what Joanne Barnaby did when she got into a terrifying situation while out picking morel mushrooms near Fort Smith, N.W.T., last Friday.
Barnaby and her friend Tammy Caudron headed out to an area burned by wildfires to spend an hour or two searching for the elusive morels. They soon became separated, leaving Barnaby alone with her loyal dog, Joey.
Once her pail was full of mushrooms, she turned to head back toward her truck.
"I heard this growl behind me. There was a long, tall, very, very skinny wolf. A black wolf. And his legs were spread and his hair was standing, and he was growling, and baring his teeth."
Joey charged the animal, but the wolf stood its ground.
"I don't think Joey expected that," Barnaby says. "I didn't want him hurt, of course, but I also knew that if the wolf got Joey, I'd be next."

'Barnaby is still kicking herself for not bringing her gun into the bush, calling it a "huge mistake."
"Don't do what I did. Don't go without your gun," she says. "Anything can happen.
"If I had had that gun, it would've been a very short situation."
Shrooms huh? Are we sure she actually saw any of that???
Sounds familiar..........................
Looking for those elusive Morels???
What could possibly go wrong?
Great story. I think God was with her, helped her to think clearly, and probably sent the bear to save her. (Could an angel ever be disguised as a bear?)
That is an incredible story. It makes you wonder if she didn’t have a cooler of beer and passed out in the woods.
The scariest thing I have ever encountered in the woods (in the pitch dark before sun up) was..... Turkeys!
There is nothing quite like very quietly making your way through the woods toward your tree stand in the pitch dark, all by yourself, on a brisk quiet morning when, suddenly, the forest erupts with sound like trees are falling over and the forest is crumbling down on top of you. Turkeys flying/crashing through the branches of the trees right over head makes one hell of a racket. It took me a few minutes to understand what the sound had been. I think I pooped a little.
My mom’s husband is part owner of 300 acres in northern Michigan. They find lots of Morel’s there. I’ve only been there twice and once I was target shooting and some trespassers hunting Morel’s walked right into my line of fire. Another time, my mom and her husband were hiking. He was open carrying a Colt .45 in a cowboy rig when they happened upon trespassers who held up their hands and immediately surrendered.
I can only imagine the noise that a flock of turkeys could make. Being surprised by flushing a single grouse will double your heart rate.
I don't know for sure about that but what I do know for certain is that the devil can be disguised as a mother-in-law...........
disguised?
Satan should be her name...

To me they’re about the same...

Good one...
Wait. The envirowackos assured us that wolves would never attack humans. Did they lie to achieve reintroducing wolves? I’m shocked.
Woman ignored one of the important rules of woodcraft. When there’s a chance of meeting wolves, bears or mountain lions always have your .44mag Blackhawk loaded with 300gr bearbusters handy.
bump
I heard of something really scary that glides along the edge of the woods. Said to be asexual/bisexual/genderfluid, it moves almost as fast as I can walk and makes an odd panting noise:
