British MP Murdered with "Homemade" Gun, Knife

A British Labor MP has been murdered when she intervened in an altercation between two men, on of whom has been reported to have mental issues.  Witnesses at the scene reported that the gun used appeared “homemade”.  A knife was also used.  The MP was reportedly shot three times and stabbed several times.  From uk.businessinsider.com:

An eyewitness report given to the BBC said that Cox was attacked after becoming involved in an altercation between two men.

“There was a guy who was being very brave and another guy with a white baseball cap who he was trying to control and the man in the baseball cap suddenly pulled a gun from his bag,” the witness said.

The gun was “homemade” and large, according to multiple reports.

“It looked like a gun from, I don’t know, the First World War or a makeshift, handmade gun. It’s not sort of like the kind of gun you see normally.”

Given the  low level of firearms awareness in the U.K., I have doubts about the witnesses ability to discern whether the gun was homemade or not.  On the other hand, homemade guns are fairly common in the U.K. because factory made guns are so tightly controlled.

It might have been a converted replica, or something else. Gun reporting in the U.K. is even worse than in the U.S.

Shot three times with a homemade gun? That guy’s got some skills. Not saying it can’t be done, but that’s a lot more than a zip gun.

I have seen some fairly sophisticated homemade guns. I could be a blank firing gun that was converted, or a multi-barrel muzzle loader.

I made a 4 barrel muzzleloader from hardware store parts in 1984, for about $12. Four shots in five seconds. .45 caliber, electrically fired. Legal, as it was a muzzleloader.

Perhaps. I saw a Youtube video showing how to make a gun out of automotive brake line and a 22LR cartridge. Not super safe, but seemed to work...

The accounts that I have read were that she intervened, not that she was directly attacked.

I’ve seen a zip gun made from an automotive radio antenna - the 3 section hollow type, bottom part used to fit a .22 cartridge just right. Can be fired multiple times.
