Watershed moments occur in every presidential campaign -- unanticipated incidents, often tragedies -- that demand a candidate response and force voters to consider how White House aspirants would respond in the Oval Office to such critical moments.
Orlando is such a moment. The weekend attack at a gay nightclub in the city is most lethal shooting in U.S. history. Orlando changes -- at least for now and perhaps longer term -- the presidential campaigns tone and tenor, providing a window to how the next president will respond in such crises.

I went to a Stand With Orlando rally last night. A tremendous crowd 750 people, on such short notice - especially for Johnson City, TN.
The MC told the crowd Today, were all gay today were all LGBT: an identity of perversion, and I do not believe in that. The song chosen to warm up the crowd was Imagine (Imagine theres no country - no possessions - no religion no Heaven): a creed of denials, and I do not believe in that, either.
I believe the Word of God will stand forever, and His Word is what I had on my sign: Thou Shalt Not Kill. And I got a lot of Thanks-yous and huge hugs from mascaraed boys gone silly and sloppy women gone butch. It all goes to show that, despite what divides us, its possible to share a degree of respect and understanding.
And you know what? I believe in that.
Pretty much Mr. Trump won the election this past weekend.
One candidate recognizes the threat of Islam.
The other does not.
Simple as that.
The Liberal/Marxists have reaped what they have sown. They now find themselves on both sides of an untenable issue. IMHO Trump is savvy enough to use this to his advantage.
Obama was warned, on several occasions by several advisors, to NOT release Moslem terrorists from Guantanamo as our enemies would see that as a sign of weakness and it would invite more attacks by Moslem terrorists on Americans.
Obama ignored the warnings and released Moslem terrorists.
Obama owns this massacre.
He was warned and ignored the warning.
Trump is absolutely right to say that Obama should resign.
He at least won Florida. He made a heart felt speech regarding the matter, where hillary went into the same worn out anti gun speech with no sincerity in her voice.
In my home state, there was at a church in downtown Hartford, that is run by the Francisians which ministers to people who are lgtb and seen from an e-mail they had a special memorial mass for those killed.
The responses to Orlando from the two candidates is telling. Trump laid down the gauntlet and said he would defend the country from radical Islamists. Hillary coddled our enemy absolving them from blame because she’s on a number of their donations lists.
“Pretty much Mr. Trump won the election this past weekend.”
That’s what I think too. We all knew this was coming, just fortunate it happened before Nov 8. Cynical, harsh, but true.
I pray to God that’s true!! Cause the forces from hell(both parties) are about to be unleashed!
The Number 1 threat to the western world...and the entire world for that matter, is islamic terrorism.
This is followed closely by the Number 2 threat....those who are in complete denial of islamic terrorism; their heads in the sands of denial and fingers pointing at anything else other than islamic terrorism.
This election draws the lines of difference between the two candidates.
I agree, and this sentiment is likely what Trump was referring to when he tweeted about getting congratulations after the shooting.
My letter to the LA Times, which will not be published.
Re: Editorial Trumps innuendo a new low (The Times will not allow articles unless they reference a Times story or editorial. Also they are rabidly anti-trump and pro-Clinton and Imam Obama and yes, i see it free at breakfast downtown)
Ok, lets dispense with innuendo. Trump made one of the strongest national defense statements in the last 53 years (Cuban Missile Crisis). Obama is very weak on terrorism. Droning leaders and sporadic low level bombing are only small steps and new leaders emerge. He released terrorists when they are still waging declared war on us and our allies and when attacks continue. He refuses to even name the obvious common thread, radical Islam. Even Clinton admits it now that Trump prodded her into it.
Obama relishes open borders and welcomes immigrants from terrorist areas when his administrators admit those countries cant provide sufficient document to do thorough screening. He supported a misnamed Arab Spring and destabilized several counties as radicals and terrorists gained power in those countries. He failed to respond to an attack on our Ambassador and protect a missile shipment. He turns a blind eye to the largest national supporter of terrorism, Iran, in their development of a nuclear weapon. He hides information indicating the Saudi officials lent support to the 9-11 terrorists.
When asked about ISIS 3 years ago, he said that the Pentagon, after two years, was still working on a plan of attack. I made my decision, before this week, that I could not vote for Clinton and now I am sure that I will be voting for the strongest candidate for our national defense, Donald Trump. If anything, Trumps statement could have been stronger.
Lastly, the Times refuses to make public the recording of Obamas statement at a dinner in LA which might have cost him the election in 2008. As Bush said, youre either for us or your for the terrorists. Trump is for us and its time for you to step up.
The truth is that those same forces have LOST as of this past weekend.
Yet we must keep Mr. Trump in our prayers BIGTIME.
As I had posted, Mr. Trump won the election this past weekend. That is why he is sounding more like a President right now.
No. He is complicit in it.
