Florida Catholic bishop: ‘It is religion, including our own,’ that targets LGBT people
Washington Post ^ | 6/13/16 | Robert Lynch

Second, sadly it is religion, including our own, that targets, mostly verbally, and often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. Attacks today on LGBT men and women often plant the seed of contempt, then hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence.

***
Even before I knew who perpetrated the mass murders at Pulse, I knew that somewhere in the story there would be a search for religion as motivation. While deranged people do senseless things, all of us observe and judge and act from some kind of religious background. Singling out people for victimization because of their religion, their sexual orientation, their nationality must be offensive to God’s ears.

There is a huge difference between love (guiding people to God so they will choose to follow His word) and hate (murdering people by the dozens). This false moral equivalence is a serious logical error.

As if, to an adamant rebel, reading is enough to change his situation? I’m pretty sure they required the reading in seminary.

Talking that way might be a backhanded compliment to our own intellects, but God has never asked us to do that.

I may have missed all the stories about mobs of maddened Catholics throwing gay people off buildings and gunning them down in clubs...

It’s kind of the strawman argument. Make out Christianity as being fundamentally uncaring and superficial, and then damn that caricature.

It’s a pack of lies, but to get through the lies, we have to be careful ourselves about what the truth is. Humanity itself was born in sin and we’re no exceptions ourselves, not the most pious of us whoever that might be.

Why in heck did he mention being pro-life, since he obviously isn’t.

Catholic massacres of homosexuals to begin in three... two... one... oh, never mind - wrong century. Wrong planet. Wrong reality.

Screw you, bishop. If you oppose something on moral grounds - anything - does that necessarily mean you want to kill those involved in what you oppose? Does Bernie Sanders want to kill Wall Street brokers? Does Hillary Clinton want to kill people who work for gun companies?

When he was a seminary rector, Lynch installed video cameras IN THE SHOWERS.

Lynch pursued a triathlete in his employ, showered him with gifts, insisted on staying in one hotel room, and said to a priest: “Isn’t he an Adonis?” The guy eventually sued for sexual harassment, and got almost $200K.

Lynch forbade his priests to make any appearance while Terri Schiavo was dying, and flew off to India to look at the damage from the tsunami.

Lynch has said that he CAN’T PROMISE that the Church will ever say that same-sex marriages are “sacramental.”

Lynch is a TYPICAL POS John Paul II appointee.

Appointed bishop by John Paul II, who refused even to read the dossiers on candidates. He just opened the folders, and signed on the dotted line. He appointed thousands of POS’s like Lynch, and Bergoglio, all over the world.

Ever since Bernardin, the bishops’ basic approach to the pro-life movement is to keep whining that “all these other issues are ‘pro-life’ issues, too, so stop making such a big deal out of abortion.”

The story was about mussies killing gays. My question was how many Christians killed gays not how many priests abused kids.

Not simply a sin - an abomination to God.

I’m tired of people who clearly should know better trying to equate Christianity with islam. Message for the Bishop: God will not be mocked.

I can’t speak for the Schiavo incident. However, this is the Bishop that expressly forbade the practice of exposition and adoration in his diocese, stating essentially that it was a waste of time when one can be out in the world doing good works!

Appointed by JPII, AFTER Lynch was a notorious gay voyeur and molester. Installed video cameras in the showers at a seminary where he was rector.

Ranks with Weakland.

Not removed by Benedict. Not removed by Bergoglio.

Lynch is satanic. I've seen much bad behavior from Catholic bishops in my lifetime, but Lynch is the only one who actively tried to help starve and dehydrate an innocent person — an innocent CATHOLIC person — to death. Really, in my mind, there is no other explanation for Lynch's behavior in the Terri Schaivo case than that Lynch was being blackmailed...or that he is just 100% evil. This should tell you something: Jesse Jackson read about the case and flew to Florida and sided with Terri Schaivo’s family. Now, I am no Jesse Jackson fan, but I did some research and there was nothing in it for him in the Terri Schaivo case. I believe that it was just this simple: Jackson read about what was happening, realized that Terri was being murdered, and did what he could do. In that case, all he could do was hold hands with Terri's mother and appear on camera with her, but, you know what? It was a hell of a lot more than Bishop Lynch did. In fact, it was the opposite of what Bishop Lunch did.
