Reid said the man is presumed dead because he has yet to be found, "the recovery process is very difficult because of the hazards of the environment, said Reid.
Reid said the man is in his 20s, but she would not identify the man or where he is from. The man reportedly walked about 225 yards off the board walk before falling in to the hot spring.
The springs are known to reach temperatures that would be deadly to humans on contact.

I have to admit a morbid curiosity to know more about the deceased. Was he from another country or culture? Was he on drugs? Was he known to be depressed or suicidal?
Intentional suicide.
He’s probably Irish - with a surname of “O’Boyled”
We are all curious.
Mine only seeks confirmation on my belief that he was stupider than a bag of hammers.
I think you can reasonably put “stupid” on your list. Walking 225 yards beyond the safe walkway!
Who is dumb enough to go out there and ‘rescue’ him?
Took a snowmobile tour there in January. The guide (guides are mandated by the government) told us about a dog that had jumped into a hot spring. They don’t try to rescue you. You basically become soup very quickly. Ugly. Stay on the walkways.
If hot sulphurous bubbling boiling mud isn’t enough to convince you to stay on the boardwalk, nothing is. Suicide, and perhaps Darwin.
There were probably no cute little grizzly bear cubs around to pet, so he went looking for some.
It’s likely too dangerous for anyone to even try to get to his body no matter what gear they might wear. You might try a big crane.
Jeez. What a moron.
There are less unpleasant ways to commit suicide.
Did he know the Clintons?
Was he using his pogo stick at the time?
A friend of mine said one of her first memories was being at Yellowstone maybe sixty five years ago, when a family opened the car door and a little boy took off in a run to the spring, and jumped in. By the time they got rangers there to get him out, they had to use a net as the meat was falling off the boy’s bones.
She has never been back.
Meanwhile we had great time there three years go!
Sounds like he was committing suicide although I don’t want to put a spin on it that isn’t true.
He walked 225 yards to the area. That’s a quarter of a mile. Seems pretty determined to get to the area.
I would imagine the area was steaming and blowing hot water. Says “Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most changeable thermal area in Yellowstone,” and at the bottom of the article it says “a teenage boy and his father suffered thermal burns near the Castle Geyser. They were flown to Salt Lake City for treatment”.
He was a detective. Now he’s a hard-boiled detective.
The water’s beautiful and filled with acid..
Run over to “Old Faithful” she’ll spit him out in a hour.....
His name must now be Stew.
I’ve seen people do really insane, risky things at National Parks.
