Former attorney general: Trump right to question judge’s fairness

By Mark Hensch

Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says Donald Trump is right to challenge the fairness a judge overseeing lawsuits against him.

“An independent judiciary is extremely important. But that value is not the only one in play here,” Gonzales wrote in a Saturday op-ed for The Washington Post.

"Equally important, if not more important from my perspective as a former judge and U.S. attorney general, is a litigant’s right to a fair trial,” he continued.

“The protection of that right is a primary reason why our Constitution provides for an independent judiciary. If judges and the trials over which they preside are not perceived as impartial, the public will quickly lose interest in the rule of law upon which our nation is based.” Trump on Thursday said U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel’s Hispanic ethnicity is “an absolute conflict” in three civil fraud lawsuits against the billionaire.

He said Curiel’s “Mexican heritage” makes him partial because of Trump’s calls for a wall along America’s southern border with Mexico.

Go to the La Raza Lawyer’s Association of San Diego website, and you will find that it lists it as being affiliated with La Raza Lawyer’s Association of California. The La Raza Lawyer’s Association of California IS affiliated with the National Council of La Raza, it says so on their website, and has a link to NCLR.

I know we are supposed to give every minority a complete pass on radical affiliations (0bama with Wright and Ayers, now Black Lies Matter, etc), but to say that the La Raza Lawyer’s Association is not the same as La Raza is like saying that the Ku Klux Klan Lawyer’s Association, really isn’t the same as the KKK.

A few years ago in Arizona a judge had a twin sister —Janet Murguia— who was a national officer with La Raza; the judge, though not a member of La Raza herself, recused hereslf in a case which had ethnic implications, because

a judge must only not BE unbiased, he/she must not APPEAR in the least way to have a chance of bias.

All of you may want to ask yourselves why Trump’s legal team has not sought the judge’s removal. Short answer: there are no grounds to do so.

You may also want to ask yourselves why so many respected conservative (like Gingrich) have condemned Trump’s remarks. Short answer: Because the remarks are inaccurate, bigoted, un-Christian and a massive election turn off for most Americans.

But yes, I will still (probably) hold my nose, close my eyes, plug my ears and vote for Trump, as the election of any liberal, especially Clinton, would be a disaster for America. So will the Mexican American judge I had lunch with Friday - a lifelong Republican who, like me, is dismayed by our rotten choices this election.

He is going after LaRaza through the judge.

He absolutely is going after LaRaza through the judge. Most Americans do not even understand what LaRaza is about. Ask your neighbors if they think we should give California, NV, NM, CO and Utah back to Mexico, even though we fought one war and paid for that territory.

LaRaza gets millions in grants from our government. It is a disgrace.

I hope we start talking about LaRaza more.

The judge ordered the release of documents because Trump is a public figure.

Given that the judge belongs to an organization which opposes Trump's politics, an organization which is associated with a group called "No Border Wall" - which directly opposes Trump, his impartiality may reasonably be questioned. His organized opposition to Trump's politics couldn't possibly have played a role in his decision, could it? Naw, that is completely unreasonable to suggest. /s

There shouldn't even be the appearance of a conflict or a bias concerning a party.

Never let your opponent decide the boundaries of the contest. Trump has put the racists in the spotlight and they don’t like it.

> inaccurate, bigoted, un-Christian and a massive election turn off for most Americans.

What? Are you out of your mind? The judge is associated with a racist organization.

When a judge is a member of an egregiously racist group such as the “La Raza” racists, AKA , the “Klan With A Tan”, that judge’s impartiality IS open to questioning.

Would any non-Libtard consider a KKK member to be an impartial judge in a case where a black raped/killed a white girl?

You got Judge Curiel all wrong, sure he's a member of laRaza, but it's a DIFFERENT laRaza, the laRaza Lawyers of Calif, they're GOOD laRaza's, not the same as the NAT'L COUNCIL of laRaza, according to this article from Red State(CONSIDER THE SOURCE!) What's in a name? Kinda like the mafia denying there's a mafia.
