On Thursday night, Emmett Rensin, the deputy editor of Voxs first person section, sent a series of tweets that, among other things, urged people to riot if Donald Trump comes to their town, wrote Ezra Klein, Voxs editor in chief, in a statement posted this afternoon. We at Vox do not take institutional positions on most questions, and we encourage our writers to debate and disagree. But direct encouragement of riots crosses a line between expressing a contrary opinion and directly encouraging dangerous, illegal activity. We welcome a variety of viewpoints, but we do not condone writing that could put others in danger.
The tweets, continued Klein, violated the sites standards, and a suspension of unspecified duration is now in place.
The disciplinary move may well satisfy critics who hammered Rensin for his thoughts on civil unrest. And thats about it.
A little context to this episode is in order. Yesterday at a Trump rally in San Jose, protesters and supporters of the presumptive Republican nominee clashed.
-snip
In light of all that, we have at hand another pointless journalism suspension, a knee-jerk response to public condemnation that this blog has blasted time and again. We emailed Klein with this question: Is the suspension designed to provoke a rethinking of [Rensins] worldview, or to let him know that therell be penalties for expressing it?

And there has been a ton of it since the San Jose Assaults.

Sounds a lot of WRONG context and lies. The protesters ATTACKED Trump supporters.
That would be unprovoked random and repeated physical attacks on Trump supporters. 'Clashed' would indicate mutual combat.
Uh - no. Protesters criminally assaulted people who attended a political rally in support of Trump. Glad to clear that up ya jackass.
Well shucks. Everyone should go around advising people to commit acts of violence against people they disagree with.
Thank you! To this day, no one cares that Couric humiliated Palin and no one (except us few on FR and elsewhere), least of all John McCain, fought back against the lies and omissions that destroyed her candidacy. I’m still bitter about the treatment of that fine woman. A lesson in what happens when you step off the feminist plantation.

BUMP!
Yup! Without a recorder, conservatives, you are DOOMED!
Make him a Democrat candidate in the future.
It’ll get him a great job at the Washington Compost.
Good memory -- Couric and her people (who colluded with turncoat Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt) conspired to set Palin up to make her look dopey. Yes -- and then the usual slice, dice, and re-edit. Couric has ZERO cred and honor. And neither do Wallace and Schmidt. Nor McCain for that matter.
The 0bama campaign hired thousands of people using multiple screen names to post thousands of really nasty comments about McCain and Palin on every story related to the election.
And now the Dems and their surrogates are hiring Somalis from Minnesota thru Craigslist ads to harass Trump supporters at his events. They wound up in San Jose , CA of all places. Some things never change for the Dems (or GOPe.)
