Hillary Clinton Struggles to Find Footing in Unusual Race

Democrats could hardly believe their good fortune last month when it became clear that Hillary Clinton was headed to a general election showdown with Donald J. Trump. Mr. Trump carried so much baggage and had insulted so many voting blocs that some Clinton supporters began to imagine a landslide.

But early optimism that this would be an easy race is evaporating. In the corridors of Congress, on airplane shuttles between New York and Washington, at donor gatherings and on conference calls, anxiety is spreading through the Democratic Party that Mrs. Clinton is struggling to find her footing.

They don't/won't get it. Trump's insults and nastiness - directed at such deserving targets - are among the main reasons he is poised to grab the Presidency.

The real story is not what's in the article but the fact that DNC official mouthpieces like the New York Times and Washington Post are starting to raise these sort of questions at all instead of running interference for her, as would be expected if her grip on the party were as secure as she'd have the public believe.

One can only imagine the behind-the-scenes maneuvering going on. Really, the only thing Hillary has going for is the threat to take down as many others with her (starting with Obama) if she's brought down. That's the only calculus that will matter between know and the convention. The D angst is whether they can force her out with minimal damage or have to acquiesce to her going down in flames in the general and try to salvage what they can for the next 4 or 8 years under Trump.
