Unlike the butchery that bookended it, it merited no presidential statements, no saturation television coverage.
But what took place at 6101 Prentice Street on Aug. 21 may say more about the nature of gun violence in the United States than any of those far more famous rampages. It is a snapshot of a different sort of mass violence one that erupts with such anesthetic regularity that it is rendered almost invisible, except to the mostly black victims, survivors and attackers (...)
Clearly, if its black-on-black, we dont get the same attention because most people dont identify with that. Most Americans are white, said James Alan Fox, a professor of criminology at Northeastern University in Boston. People think, Thats not my world. Thats not going to happen to me.
Michael Nutter, a former Philadelphia mayor, who is black, said that society would not be so complacent if whites were dying from gun violence at the same rate as blacks.

And we're not allowed to say that one of the races has a predilection for violence. We are only allowed to say that one of the races is victimized and oppressed and equal to everyone else in every way, despite its long-term failure to thrive in any country around the globe.
So, since by definition, the problem cannot be identified as a “race” problem (that would be judgmental) , we must de facto have a “gun violence” problem.
It is not just Black on Black violence which doesn’t get much coverage. Black on White coverage is pretty much banned.
Complacent? Tell that to Jesse Jackson and Obama. Never hear them talk about black on black gun violence.
That's how it was in the eighties when I had to deal with it on a regular basis and from what I hear it's even worse now with younger and younger criminals buying weapons illegally.
Want to stop black on black gun violence? Stop making deals to bargain down the sentence for people who use or have a gun. Then we'd solve a lot of the problem but immediately be told how horrible it is that so many black folks are in prison.
They wouldn't be victims of gun violence but then the same liberals would still be upset and blaming guns for their being in prison rather than blaming them for their own crimes.
JMHo
We're not complacent. We just don't demand favorable treatment for white criminals, then bitch when they're worse than other criminals.
ummm, Nutter, blacks are complacent about black on black crime. Why should other people care?
It was sad what happened, but the guy was drunk...apparently he had a permit for a gun or he might have had one that wasn’t legal...
There are massive rules on the books already for guns...this is our second amendment right...if people don’t know how to handle themselves, or they buy one off the street because they can’t get one the legal way, it should NOT reflect on us that do have them, know how to use them and when...
There are more black on black and black on white shooting than reported, and why is that? Society fault, parents fault, we have an idea but nothing has been done about it...
You have a black pResident and wife in the White House and what have they done for the black community? NOTHING...they have turned their backs on them, to busy golfing, expensive vacations, trying to tell our children what they are going to eat, if at all, all the while sitting in OUR HOUSE dining on lavish foods, wearing expensive clothes, hanging out with the elites because that is WHO they THINK they are....start there before you come down on the LEGAL GUN OWERS!!!
You can’t have a rational discussion with someone determined to be “better” than you.
Michael Nutter, a former Philadelphia mayor, who is black, said that society would not be so complacent if whites were dying from gun violence at the same rate as blacks.
It’s black on black. That means it’s blacks doing the shooting. If whites try to do something about it they’re called racist. If blacks try to do something about it they’re call “Uncle Toms”.
If blacks weren't so busy killing each other we wouldn't even be having this conversation. And most of those killings occur in cities where guns are effectively banned for all intents and purposes. So blame yourself not whites for your problems.
Black Lives Matter... if they’re killed by white cops.
Black Lives Don’t Matter... if blacks kill each other.
Which about sums up where we are.
If blacks weren't so busy killing each other we wouldn't even be having this conversation. And most of those killings occur in cities where guns are effectively banned for all intents and purposes. So blame yourself not whites for your problems.
Michael Nutter, a former Philadelphia mayor, who is black, said that society would not be so complacent if whites were dying from gun violence at the same rate as blacks. But were not and whites have just as many if not ten times more weapons. I find his comment offensive.
A true Black Irishman.......hahahahaha we have a different version of them in Southie.....Mr. Murphy ...how did he obtain that name I wonder? Certainly not an Irish father in the true sense of the word.....a given name more than than likely....in my humble opinion.
"White America" has gun crime stats that resemble those of Switzerland. "Black America" stats more closely resemble South Africa.
Ain't multiculturalism grand?
What do you find illegal about owning a firearm?.....why do I need to ask permission for a right? Remember Katrina round-up of “firearms” they tracked down registered owners...”they” being so called “LAW” enforcement.....so I present to you once again “WHY DO I HAVE TO ASK PERMISSION FOR A RIGHT?.”
AND the answer to that question is YES. Democrats. Democrats are killers.
Same in the prison system... 98% democrats - of all races. The tie that binds is a philosophy of indulgence, low morals and thin skin.
...one that erupts with such anesthetic regularity that it is rendered almost invisible, except to the mostly black victims, survivors and attackers......'cause, y'know, media shills love it when white people die, and black people dying at the hands of black people doesn't fit the narrative.
